Stock .vs. ADS Chip Comparison
I just registered TunerCat and have been comparing three BIN's:
1) The factory one in my car,
2) The ADS chip I bought for my car many years ago, and
3) 87GTA350.bin that I got off diy-efi
The only differences I could find were in the first MAF table and in the ECM constants for TCC control. Interestingly, the MAF tables in the GTA and ADS match. My stock chip has slightly different values. The only other difference I could find was that ADS raised the TCC lock/unlock speeds (mine and GTA matched).
Why do you suppose my MAF table is different than the other two? ADS told me over the phone that they changed both fuel and spark curves, but I don't see it. Any theories on why?
Before I'm done, you guys are going to wish I'd never purchased TunerCat

Congratulations, you too have been ripped off by ADS. I discovered the same thing for my 1991 GTA L98 ADS chip.
Basically, they increased the lock/unlock speed of my TCC by 3 mph, added a little extra spark in the lower to mid rpms (and badly at that...they transposed some numbers) and thats about it. A major source of my knock retard problem.
Whats worst, my eprom is soldered in, so I cannot even use it as a "donor" for other eproms. The only use I have for it is to erase and reprogram, until the eprom won't accept any more reprogramming, and then unsolder it and solder in a ZIF socket.
Frankly, I would be embarrassed to give that BIN to anyone; even for free.

Well I guess you can add my name to the list of guys who got ripped off with an ADS chip. I just got my TC turned on tonight, and I compared the ADS bin with my stock GM bins. Not alot of differences. I did see the change in spark advance vs RPM vs load, but only at high loads. My TCC speeds were actually lower on the ADS chip!! I didn't compare the MAF tables yet.
My car seems to run ok with the ADS chip, but now I will make it even better!!
This is cool stuff!!!

Best ET 14.413 @95.57 without
pulling valve covers or manifolds.
Also with stock 2.77 rear end!!!

I wish I could say that ONLY ADS is bad, but the BIN I have seen for Jet is not much better and I am curious to see what a Hyperjunk looks like.
But the one I am DYING to see is the TPIS Magnum eprom. I REALLY want to see what TPIS gives you for their Level II. I am almost prepared to buy one JUST to let everyone know how badly TPIS rips everyone off.
I am REALLY regretting not getting into eprom buring a lot sooner. But better late than never.

By open, you mean remove the plastic cover I presume. Mine was lightly glued, but I slipped a sharp knife initially to between the plastic cover and the small circuit board. Then I took a jewellers fine flat screwdriver in a gap I created with the knife and carefully pryed the the plastic cover off the circuit board. Just be patient and use gentle pressure and it will pop off cleanly. If you work it too hard, you'll break the plastic.
Once I removed the plastic cover, I just leave it off. I use it as a "reference" to plug the GM memcal into it. Currently, I am directly programming onto a second GM memcal that I have, but I am now going to start burning onto the ADS eprom directly, and then replace the eprom with a ZIF socket when I'ver "worn" it out.
As for those BINs, sure, e-mail them to me. Best to discuss those things in private anyways.

I have the 305 Hyperjunk and 305 TPI ADS bin and they are identical...but on the 305's...the timing tables are WAY different than stock...but they make NO sense...I don't even know how to explain the difference other than to say the timing table numbers don't jive at all. WAY WAY too low. Like 4^ in the low rpm areas and well...just messed up. I would be scared to use that as a starter bin for my 305...

I cannot comment on the 305, but with my SD L98, the ADS mostly played with the spark tables as you have noticed and primarily in the upper areas of the "MAP/Load" area of the table and in the low to mid rpm range, and maybe a couple of degrees at the top (can't remember exactly...I'm old).
But I do recall that some of the modifications to the spark table did not make logical sense either. It went up, then down and then up...and some of the values between 90 and 100 kpa appeared to be reversed? I personally think that this poor quality control on their part, and ADS made a mistake when they modified the table. There is no way that a spark table should vary like a "waves on a lake"....some higher than the stock eprom and some lower than the stock eprom. Not very logical IMO.

If too screwy send me a copy of the bin, and I'll look at it. Sometimes they get scrambled. Just remind me if you send it what the deal is. I get lots of mail
