What I've been working on - ScannerPro

Hi Guys -

I'm thinking it's time to explain the delay in new TunerPro builds. I've set TunerPro aside for a bit to focus solely on datalogging and monitoring. The result is a new piece of standalone OBD monitoring software with all new features. I've written this application from scratch and developed it with the lessons I've learned in writing TunerPro in mind.

It uses a new definition format, ADX, that shares many features with XDF. Items can be linked to other items (for new data types such as economy, fuel correction terms [target AFR/WBO2], etc). You can define constants for other calculations (injector flow rate, vehicle weight, etc).

You can gather histogram data, with a definable history depth and various calculation methods including standard deviation, running average, historical average, etc. The active cell is highlighted.

The dashboard is completely configurable, with new controls (including an analog gauge) and more planned. You can add as many gauges as you want and place them where you want them.

The monitor control has been rewritten from scratch. A monitor can have as many plots as you want. Log data will be populated on load. You can add as many monitors as you like.

Item lists are completely confurable. You can add flags and values to the same lists, and define multiple lists. List text can be any color you choose with bold font or regular.

Value data can be passed to lookup tables, and lookup tables are now much more powerful. You, can for instance, define a string lookup table with "Cold, Warm, Hot, Overheating" and associated values and pass the output of a coolant temp item to said lookup table. The string closest to the corresponding value outputted from the item will be displayed.

Commands can be batched in macros for doing things such as data dumps, complex connection routines (such as those required for $58 - my current testbed, and 94/95 LT1). Down the road you can also define BIN dump macros for ALDL bin dumping, as well as control commands for doing Mode 4 stuff.

Once I get it to a logical milestone, all features of ScannerPro will be integrated into TunerPro RT.

I have tons more work to do on this, but figured it's a good time to announce what's coming. I won't be able to get all my ideas in before release (I've been working on it for ~6 months as it is!), so there will be a lot of things added after release.

All of this will eventually lead me to auto-tuning.

I plan to have a beta available for people to play with in a couple weeks (2 if all goes well).

Here are some screens:

PS - Notice there is no application icon in the caption bar. If you're the artistic type and want to make your mark, I could use your help in creating an application icon for ScannerPro. The icon should support all normal icon sizes (16x16, 32x32, 48x48, etc). If this is something that interests you, please contact me offline.

WOW!!! Don't have to much to say but WOW

I really like Tuner Pro and this is just what the doctor ordered. I will love the fact that it should be able to handle $58 masks. I am assuming through Autoprom with real Time Emulation right?

Another Great piece of software in the makings.

There's an importer for ADS files, although typically some post-import cleanup by hand does some good.

Hi Guys -

Sorry for the lack of response on my part, and thanks for the wonderful interest (it's what keeps me going!).

I've been away on vacation for a week and have been swamped at work (it's that time of year).

I will put together a setup with some simple definitions for the common platforms that should allow many of you to play around. I will have ZERO documentation to start with, so I'll be relying on some self-driving and knowledgable users to play around and figure things out.

Look for an update in the next few days.

Thanks again!

Mark

I am in for testing. I have a immediate need for more data coming from a 8746. I am helping a friend getting his 383 running in his 84 Vette. His cam is much more aggressive than mine which has made things challenging to say the least.

I see some other people are behind times like me on their laptops. Is this gonna be compatible with Win2K, 98Se and etc.?

Last year or so ive been running into (64bit?) problems on older OS and newer programs.

Great thing though and thanks.

Yes, it is compatible with everything except Win95, just like TunerPro. ScannerPro will be a bit more system intensive than the current incarnation of TunerPro, though. A minimum of a 266mhz will be necessary (probably), with 400mhz or better recommended. This may improve in the future, or it may not (afterall, it is 2006, so IMO it's time for the lowest common denominator to improve).

I've got a 266 98SE tester for you. $OD only for the moment though unless bench testing is ok.

Sorry for the delays guys. Work on this has been moving at a snail's pace. Unfortunately my day job is taking its toll on my time. Things should slow down in the next few weeks (I should have something to you before then, though).

I'll keep posting updates as I get closer. I'm not far from having something for you all to play with (I swear!). In fact, some have already been using it.

Alright Gomers...

Thanks for all the interest. I'm not really ready to release anything, but I'm going to anyway.

Click here to have at it!

Note that there isn't much to the site at the moment.

I'm calling it a beta, although I'm nowhere near where I want to be. I figure, though, that it's time for you guys to start playing around. Please read the little "agreement" carefully before downloading. I have zero documentation at the moment, but the included ADX files should be example enough to get many of you started.

You will undoubtedly have questions. For that I've created a "ScannerPro Application" group in my TunerPro forum. Here's a direct link to the ScannerPro beta discussion forum:
TunerPro User Forum :: View Forum - Beta Discussion

I'll try very hard to keep up with your questions there.

Oh, and I'm going out of town for 5 days or so, so I'll be a bit slow to respond at first.

Have fun!

-M

I have started working on Definition files with Dashes, Histograms, etc, for both 1987-1991 TBI trucks and 1994-1995 Automatic TBI trucks.

Anybody started working on a 730 $8d scan yet? JP, Scott, anybody? I've been distracted working on suspension mods and not driving the car. Maybe a collaboration on this to get to a good working definition on this.

PS BTW Mark love the ScannerPro logo/pic on the website....

An 8D definition is in the download. That should get you started, I think.

Vern - what year/ecm/mask? If you have an ADS for TunerPro, you can import that into ScannerPro.

OK. I didn't know that you can now use a ADS definition to import to start. I will try that maybe as soon as this weekend....thanks Mark I can't wait to see the intergerated solution.

OK, I'll check it again. I'm using $8D with S_AUJP v4 beta in a 730 (91 'Bird in my .sig). I had imported my ADS file, and that appears to have worked, but it's probably stoopitity (LOL) on my part not knowing what to hit to connect. Little connect button says not connected when I try that.

I'm running V? something but I lost track and have not heard from Scott or JP in a while. I was chasing gremlins on my cold start idle. It appeared that my IAC was not working but it actually was. I don't know if it has the 'manual' bin idle stuff in it but I used to be able to open my blades and watch my IAC counts go down immediatly. That wasn't happening. I finally said f@#k it and opened it. After a while the counts went down to about 30 which is where I like it for split blm. I am not sure if this was caused from the LT1 intake or something else.
