Ostrich won't work

Well it kinda does. I have the ostrich hooked up to the computer with the bin and xdf file uploaded everything checks fine. I fire the car up and it runs pretty good. Still needs some tuning. I drive it down the road and aboud 2 min sometimes less the ses light comes on and it's usually a code 51. Of course the car won't run so I have to take the Ostrich off and put my chip back in to get it to run. It's a 92 TA Tpi. Is it me or is this emulator bad? I need some help I'm lost and out of ideas. I went into prefrences and clicked on disable checksum but still the same outcome. What else can I do? Thanks

Give the guys more than 3 hours to reply. There are plenty of knowledgeable people here that will assist you. You have provided pretty good information, but anything else you can give them such as what mask your running, can never hurt.

Patience is a virtue, and it's worth it to have some with these guys!

Re: Ostrich won't work

Did you get the tune loaded right in the Ostrich with the correct xdf file from moates? Also, try disabling the VATS and anything else you might have taken off like AIR or EGR. And most importantly, did you put it in right? I installed mine backwards the first time.

Re: Ostrich won't work

Sorry about being so hasty. I've just been trying to get this on my own for a week now and just can't get it too work. I'm using 92GTA_350_stock_32k.bin and 1227730_8d.xdf. Is shows a speed density adjustment on it so I thought it would work for my set up. I've tried other ones but they don't show that sd adjustment but they show a setting for cylinder volume and a few other things. I haven't changed anything on the bin except the intial base timing. I didn't touch vats or anything else. Just trying to see if I could get it to run off of the emulator first. I followed the instructions on moates.net as far as hooking all of it up. But I'm still not sure it its right. I have the G1 and S2 adapter plugged into my chip on the side with the two smaller chips and then have that plugged into the ecm. I plug the Ostrich into the adapter and start it up. Last night it would idle ok, not perfect since I still need to actually tune everything, but it would idle. I took it down the road, but as soon as I got into a little bit the ses light would come on and off and the car would try to shut down. It did that with checksum disabled and not disabled. YenkoST can you send me a pic of how yours is installed? And everything is still on my car as far as emissions go. The only thing not on there right now is the tube that goes from the air box to the cat. I appreciate the help.

Yea....see if I can explain it. The red wire line is on the yellow connector side of the computer. In other words, two black connectors then a yellow.....the cable.....white-------red.

You can download a xdf file from moates and I have a bin file if you want to try that or moates has a stock bin file on there as well.

Re: Ostrich won't work

Well I can't really burn chips since I have the emulator. From all the reading I've done an emulator sounded less complicating and not as time consuming. Besides that it was cheaper. So am I using the correct bin and xdf?

Re: Ostrich won't work

I've tried two different xdf's. The 8D and the 1227730_8D. When I load the 8D there are alot more tables listed, int, blm, o2 and so on. When I load the other one those tables aren't there, but there is a speed density setting that the 8D does not have. Also the vss for 8D is 4006 and for the other it is only 255 and cannot be set any higher. Which one should I be using. It ran better on the 8D but the ses light stays on.

8D should be it. That's what I use with my '730 ecm.
