intermittent 160 iac steps on start up

intermittent 160 iac steps on start up
730 ecm, ajup 8D.

what would cause this? its so intermittent i can't figure out what it has to do with. i will start it up and 2,500-3,000 rpm idle, it will eventually drop if i drive it around and come to a stop, but not always, it takes a few stop and goes to get it to drop, and its not safe for obvious reasons and dropping it in gear at that speed is not good either. i've tried a few different iac motors and there is no difference. its almost like the computer thinks the engine isn't running, so its holding its startup park position. its usually a 50/50 chance that when i start it up, it stays at 160steps/3,000rpm or 0steps/800rpm.

any ideas on what table i should be looking at?

Which bin file are you using? If it's one of the v4 AUJP bins, try a stock AUJP to see if that's the problem.

i am using the aujp bin with modified ve tables and only changes to small stuff like fan turn on/off temp and such, i haven't got that far into it yet. i have looked through the tables on the 8D and SAJUPv4 and can't find anything that would relate to this. everything else is ok, engine runs fine and idles good.

I've experienced strange idle issues in the past that were corrected by starting over. Maybe the bin is some how corrupted.
Try tapping the throttle to see if it will settle down. Could be a sticking throttle.

Re: intermittent 160 iac steps on start up

im pretty sure it is ecm or iac related. the throttle closes fully and the idle settles down to normal as soon as the iac counts drop to zero. im thinking about putting the max steps and startup iac position to like 40, just incase it doesn't want to drop down, the steps will stay at 40 rather than 160. does the engine really need to have 160 steps to start, or even at all?
