After doing a search, I now know a lot about the passkey system and have decided to keep it. But $20-$40 per key? Does that sound right? I only have one, so I was hoping to get about three more. It seems to me that once the resistor code is found, the keys themselves shouldn't be that much.
If you know the P/N you can get them from gmpartsdirect.com, but you will have to pay the shipping. If you know somebody who works at a dealership, you can get the key for like $15 and not have to pay shipping. (and no, I will not sell any)

the passkey system is, in my mind, a POS. I just spent $400 trying to get the bugs worked out of my system. i would not get this system if i had to. Get a DEI alarm with a auto kill switch. Or if you already have it, buy a voltmeter and find the resistance of your key and wire a resistor inline with the system. If you have any more questions on how to do this, just ask.
I'm taking mine out.
Many people are afraid of what they don't understand. Most of the people who understand PassKey, understand the value of it, and justify the cost of keeping it functional. Passkey is a very good "theft deterrent". There is no such thing as "theft proof".
Why would you take it out, if you just spent $400 to get it fixed? If you knew how to bypass it, and hate it so much, why did you spend the $400? Engines are expensive to replace also, why don't you put a Briggs and Stratton under the hood, and save a few more bucks on your next repair?

I'm just going to go to my local Pontiac dealer and ask how much they'll charge. Besides, I usually pull out the fuse to the fuel pump when I park my car at school.

No theft detterent is foolproof, but the majority of the thieves are too stupid to figure it out. Like I said, there is no such thing as "theft proof", but it works, and you won't have to crawl under your car to unplug stuff, carry car parts wherever you go, or hide a bunch or crazy switches throughout the car that may even confuse you one day when you forget how they are wired up and the car won't start (not to mention a fire hazard if not installed properly).
