how do you take out (replace) shift indicator bulb??

how the F do you get this bulb out!? the one i am referring to is the one that lights the shift indicator (automatic)(91 firebird). if you take off the center console plastic top piece, the bulb is accessable. i have taken off the little plastic piece that looks like it would hold the wires in the plastic that the bulb is in. i have pulled, i just can't see how this thing is supposed to come out???

someone help...i can't stand little stuff like a shift indicator that doesnt light up.

Not sure about firebirds but on camaros when you unscrew the shifter plate screws and start taking the shifter plate out you see the socket for the light, you twist it and it "unlocks" itself. Hope this helps. Oh also I'm pretty sure the bulb is a 194.

Uh, you have an automatic? It doesn't come with that light since the transmission shifts on its own. Anyways, on my GTA, you have to take the instrument cluster out. It's easy by the way. Then there's little things on the back that hold the bulbs. Just twist counter clockwise and they come right out. But if you have an automatic, that light isn't in there for a reason. You don't need it. Why would you need a light telling you when to shift if you're driving an automatic? Matt

He's talking about to see what gear he is in (Park, Neutral, Reverse, Drive)

IMO, the bulb just lights up the letters, there's no friggin way to tell what gear you're in sometimes. (Drive, or Overdrive) as an example

gotta go by how many 'clicks' it goes, i guess.

You shouldnt have to unlock the wires from the socket, just pull the bulb out and slide a new one in.

Yep. I'm a dumbass. I had my instrument cluster out the other day and saw where that shift light bulb goes on a manual. Guess I had that on the brain! Matt
