Headlight switch won't turn off!

Anybody ever have trouble with their headlight switch? I remember looking up factory recalls and seeing that the only recall on my 86 IROC Camaro was a faulty headlight switch. I never took it in because I thought they would laugh at me if I tried. Well now I'm having trouble with mine! And I'm sure it's hyper-expensive like all GM electronic parts seem to be.

My daughter wanted to borrow the IROC the other night. She came home late and couldn't turn off the parking lights. Headlights go out but not the parking lights. She didn't want to wake me...I told her she should have. I would have at least disconnected the battery.

Almost 24 hours later, I'm sitting in the living room looking out the window, and the parking lights are still on!!! Really dim but still on. I went out to turn them off but they wouldn't go off for me either! So I disconnected the battery and I need to take my battery in to get it charged back up.

Has anybody else had anything like this happen on their F-bodies around that year?

You may be able to get a replacement switch through other sources. Standard Motor Parts has a broad range of switches, connectors, and devices for many vehicles. Anyone that stocks or reps the line may be able to order what you need.

a lot of headlights have the switch after the load (headlights). im not sure on our cars however. you could possibly have a short to ground before the switch which would cause it to constantly run.

No, it is mechanically broken. It has no stop for the off position.

I spoke to a dealership, and the first time I called, I was told they have to fix it, regardless of how old the recall is. Then they wanted me to call them back with the recall number. A few hours later, I did that, and the next guy I spoke to told me he thought it was too old. But he'd check and get back to me.
Yeah, sure.

I can fix it myself, but why? If it's a factory recall, and Chevrolet is supposed to fix it, why turn a single screw?
We'll see. If I continue to get the run around, I'll just fix the damn thing myself.
