Dual altinators
i have been having some battery problems lately primarily due to the huge sound system in the back. right now it takes a running car to start it. it won't start if the car i get jumped from is not running. so my question is this is it possible to hook up 2 stock working altinators to my belt drive system and how have you done it and what will i have to rewire so i can have enough power to charge and run all of my other electrical things and have another to power my subs.
1991 z28 camaro with a l98 350 motor. one belt to drive all of the pullies. and i have no idea what altinator it is that i have now but i do have two.

Re: Dual altinators
You're making alot of assumptions.
First off- dual alternators is stupid. Get a high output one.
Second- if your stereo is off when you try to start your car then it has no effect on your starting capabilities.
Sounds like you have a serious problem if it takes a running car to start your battery- check your voltage at the battery while the car is running, right when you turn it off, and after the car has sat a few hours. Those three readings will give you alot of information.
And what is the "huge" sound system you have?

Re: Dual altinators
Dual alternators isn't the solution. Duals will not allow it to start any better, as starting relies on the battery voltage.
What you need are dual batteries, with a battery isolater. You can get a good for starting, and only used for starting, and other runs the rest of the car.

Re: Dual altinators
You could have killed the alternator you have right now because your battery is not charged up enough. Your alternator can't run at full power constantly or it will give out. Plus it sounds like you have deep cycled your battery to many times. If your battery can't hold a decent charge and or it doesn't have enough cold cranking amps then it doesn't matter what alternator you have in there because even the most powerful alternator can't charge a dead battery. This happened a while ago to me.

Re: Dual altinators
no my battery bhad a hole in ti by the pos. battery post and just leaked acid all over instead of charging but i still have dimming head lights when my fans kick in and my system is running.other than that it starts just fine now.
----------
huge system would be my 1200 wat amp wired with 0 gauge wire and pushes my two memphis 12in subs.
and i have a high output alternator.

Re: Dual altinators
it was a small hole facing the bumper and it was caused by my dad who hooked up my cables backwards to jump his semi. i didn't know he did this until i started re tracing wires and every thing else.

Re: Dual altinators
1200 and that's RMS power right? i've got that in RMS power to 2 subs, and a 1000 RMS to my 4 speakers with a stock alternator. No problems with starting or charging at all...
