Cruise Control - Make Into TCC Switch?
1992 Camaro - Had cruise control, but swapped to carb and no longer using cruise function. I'd like to utilize the cruise control switch (the multi-function lever) to toggle on and off my TCC lockup function.
Thought 1 - If memory serves me, the push button was used to "set" the cruise speed, pushing it in simply set the current speed. So I'm guessing this was a 'always on' switch - it never has an 'off' function, just functioned as ... every time the button was pushed, a new 'on' was created. So, I don't suppose there's anyway of making it into a on/off switch for the TCC lockup. But ... if anyone has any ideas on how this could be made to function as an on/off switch, my preference would be to use this push button on the end of the lever.
Thought 2 - The actual on/off switch on the lever (the slide that does on, off, and resume) could be easily used to lock the TCC, as it is an on/off switch (ignoring the spring-loaded resume position). And maybe this would work really well, since the cruise already has the function built in off the brake switch to where if brake is applied, the cruise shuts off - thus if the TCC lockup was wired into this system, when brakes are applied, the TCC lockup is disabled - just as we'd want it to be - as slowing too much with the TCC locked causes the car to bog down anyway.
But - I'm no expert at reading wiring diagrams - so if someone could take a look at the link below, and tell me which color wires under the dash I'm looking for to splice into so that when I slide to ON, the TCC is locked, and when I slide to OFF, the TCC unlocks - and hopefully when brakes are applied the TCC is again unlocked - I'd greatly appreciate it.
I already have my TCC connected to a toggle, utilizing a relay so that when the toggle is ON, the relay is activated, closing a ground circuit for the TCC (since it's actually a ground that needs to be completed to lock the TCC) - so the actual wiring will be easy to move this function to the cruise switch, I just don't know what color wires I'm looking for.
Thanks for any ideas/input! Here's the wiring diagram link:

Re: Cruise Control - Make Into TCC Switch?
i dont know if im reading these diagrams right anyone have any input?
could you hook the dard blue wire from the cruise control module ( set coast) to the tan and black wire for the tcc control? im sorry acturall could you splice the tan and black wire into the dard blue one. would this complete the ground? im thinkin if it will , then when you hit the brakes the tcc should disengage? can someone look at this and tell me if im reading it wrong, this would be great if it works , cause then i would only have to remember to turn the tcc on, then when i hit the brakes it will go off on its own

Re: Cruise Control - Make Into TCC Switch?
Both of you are 90-92 so this applies equally
The cruise engage switch (button on the end of the stalk) is a momentary switch, meaning it closes when you press it and goes back to open when released. Not much use for lockup control
The slider on the stick is useful. It has 3 positions, Left (off), middle (on) and slide right (resume, new wire closed until released)
You could potentially use these to engage lockup. The connector is a 4 pin black body near the ECM. It will have gry, gry/blk, dk blu and red wires in it. These are 20 ga wires, so Id suggest adding a relay

or would i have to hook the tcc to the brown wire from the brake switch?

Re: Cruise Control - Make Into TCC Switch?
Im not really sure
I doubt the cruise module will work without the actual system functioning. Its split into two halves. The module under the dash and the cruise head unit under the hood
I do know a simple relay wont be enough to turn off lockup when the brakes are applied. You'd have to manually flick the switch off. By using a simple relay you'd unlock the converter when the brakes were applied then re-lock it when released
TCC is torque converter control

Re: Cruise Control - Make Into TCC Switch?
Well - I managed to make this work - to a degree anyway.
You are correct, the cruise modu;e won't make a ground. But - I was already using a lighted toggle switch for a TCC lockup, and since a lighted toggle turns on and off a positive 12v (it won't light if you wire it to turn on/off a ground), I was already using a relay.
So, I made use of the cruise control slide switch - the ON, OFF, RESUME part. I wired the grey wire from the cruise module to my relay instead of the 12v+ that was coming off the toggle switch. Thus, when I turn the cruise switch to ON, there is 12v+ that runs to a relay, activating it and connecting a ground to my TCC lockup.
I have no idea what - if anything - happens when the brake is depressed - haven't had a chance to fully test it yet on a drive - but I am getting the ground for the TCC lockup. I'll test on Sunday and post up.
