Applying 12v directly to the fuel pump through the diagnostic connector?

One of the posts here mentions how they were able to directly power a fuel pump and bypass the relays by plugging in an external 12 volt battery through the diagnostic connector of an 87 Trans-am. How exactly can this work, where would the positive and negative terminals plug to? I found a picture of the terminal here.

Re: Applying 12v directly to the fuel pump through the diagnostic connector?
Fuel pump already has a ground (assuming it's not cut/damaged) - so just put 12v to that G terminal in your pic.
But I wouldn't use this as a permanent fix for fuel pump not working. I'd test the relay as mentioned in that first article, and check relay and connector for the relay. 99% of the time the relay (or connector) is the issue.

Yeah, the relay is dead. Problem is I ordered mine online so it won't be here until next week. I have an external 12 volt battery, so do I just plug the positive lead to the G terminal and the negative lead to the A terminal?

Why not just run a wire from the fuse block (right there under dash) to the G terminal?
There is an empty slot marked IGN - use it - it only gets power when the key is on.
