WIPERS...have a mind of their own.

OK, so I've been having problems with my wipers for a while now. Heres what I've done and for the love of God I hope someone can help me.

Replaced motor with new one - this wasn't the problem so I switched back to my old motor.

Replaced the washer pump with this after market brand "TRICO" -"WITH Intermittent wipers"
After following the instructions I successfully installed the new pump on top of the Wiper Motor. For those that don't know, the washer pump and circuit board for the wipers is all one unit with the washer pump. Found this out the hard way. Noone seems to tell you this when looking for wiper parts.

Bolted the motor back on the car and hooked up all the wiring. Turned on the switch - NOTHING.
After playing with this for a while I discovered that by placing a ground wire onto assembly and grounding it to the car, the wipers work.

But here's the catch. They dont lisen to the wiper switch. For example sometimes it will work fine when engaged i.e ON, off, deley etcc..

Most of the time once I turn them ON and then OFF again they wont shut off unless I turn the engine off! The deley feature wont work and neither will the washer pump.

Can anyone please help me on this.

Have you replaced the control switch yet?

If you mean the lever that controls the wipers (with Delay), cruise control, turn signals and washer fluid then NO. You thinking it could be that?

Look at message 7 in this thread for the 82 wiper wiring diagrams.

If you are getting odd results the turn signal lever connection could be bad.

Re: WIPERS...have a mind of their own.

Very well could be, Its a easy replacement. I replaced mine. Got a new one from Ebay. I paid around $40 for it. The aftermarket ones are very affordable. The one I have is just a tat longer than stock and works great. This control switch gets alot of use over the years and they do wear out. Search the web for the best prices. Do a search on how to install a new one....There is a trick to it...I think you push the lever in and turn it a quarter. I can't remember right off hand.
