On my 84 camaro I have a factory windshield wiper motor connected to my washer pump. I have switched tanks to the washer reservoir which has a pump located on it instead. There are blue and red wires coming off the pump harness. Which wires off the harness that is going to the wiper motor/washer pump housing do I need to disconnect and rewire to the reservoir mounted pump instead?

Dang, I did the exact same thing to my 82, but it was so long ago I don't remember. If you have a volt meter test it that way, I asked the same question and never got a response. I had to do it by cutting wires, testing voltage and hooking it up right when I got 12 volts on the right wire when it was calling for washer. I wish I could be of more help but I figured it out, good luck.

can you check your car and tell me which wires you moved? that should still be the same colors since I don't think you cut all the factory wires off.

That's the problem, I no longer have the car and IDR, I messed with it for about an hour before I figured it out but it has been too long to remeber what color of wire. Check the electronics page and there is a link to wiring diagrams there.

Hi

This is my first post hope I don't have any gliches.

First here are three wiring diagrams from the 1982 Service manual. I am assuming that the wiper motor/pump is the same in 84 as it was in 82. I think you are looking for a simple disconnect here reconnect there. Note that for a rear washer pump you can do that (82_rear_Wiper-a.jpg). However the pump for the main wipers is intergral with the control unit in the engine bay. To disconnect the wash signal wire on these units and hook them up to your washer bottle pump will enable the pump and disable the wipers for the wash cycle.

If you look at either the pusled or non pulsed wiring diagram you do not see a seperate wire for a pump motor. You only see a wash signal on the pink and white wires. It appears that the pump on these units is mechanically interlocked with the wiper motor.

So I think you need to do the following two things. First, parallel the wash signal with your pump motor and rearrange the fluid lines to bypass the pump in the wiper controller. Other wise you will have both pumps in series, with a little more pressure on the squirt!

Wire colors of intrest are WHITE, from the fuse and at -12VDC and PINK which will end up at ground, throung the wash switch.

If you look at your wiper controller under the hood, you will see three connectors. First, on the lower left (toward pass. side) a single green wire. Second, top center with one PINK wire on the left and two WHITE wires on the right. The thrid connector is on the right behind the vaccumn line to the brakes with three wires and a diode.

I think you want the second connector, where either white wire is from the fuse at -12 VDC and the PINK wire, which is the WASH signal. You need to tap both of these and connect them to the pump in your fluid bottle.

These wiring diagrams are not the sharpest but they are legible and you should be able to see the wire colors. See the next post for a photo of connector two with the pink and white wires.

Here is a photo showing the connector with the Pink (wash signal) and White (-12VDC from fuse) on the wiper controller in my 1982 Camaro Z28. It is not the clearest but you can make out the wires. Note that the Pink is somewhat faded by the light, but it is to the left of the two white wires.
