major power drawing with car off.

I have been having a lot of power issues lately so I have been going through and tracking down everything that is a problem. Batteries nor alternators will last more than a day now. I have found 3 major power drawing problems. The main one that I cant figure out is a the ctsy fuse plugged in is pulling 2.45ma. When I pull the fuse out it goes to 0. What would cause the fuse to be drawing power with everything off? I am testing it with a multimeter and that positive battery terminal disconnected and running the leads between the both.

As for the other 2.

1. The electrics fans(there are 2 of them) Are pulling 1.88ma with the car off. It is a mess how the fans are hooked up but if the car is running and the fans turn on it almost kills the car and the alt cant keep up and keep the batt charging so it eventually dies while im driving. Im thinking about taking all the bul **** wires and relays out and having them both on a toggle swith. There are 3 different relays. 1 for each and then the main one next to the firewall. Would it be a good idea to just run them to a toggle switch and keep it off of that? Think that would stop the extra drain.

The last draw that I am getting is from the [stop haz] fuse. its only pulling about .20ma so it is no where near as bad as the others but its still drawing when it shouldnt when the car is off. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Re: major power drawing with car off.

Are you sure you're talking milliamps, or possibly amps here? Your total of about 5ma parasitic is tiny, wouldn't flatten a car battery for weeks. 5 amps on the other hand = flat in a day or so.

Obviously the fans should be drawing zero with the car off, sounds like someone has messed with the wiring. Is there some sort of fan controller connected directly to the batt instead of ign switch run position?

The ctsy fuse I assume probably runs the courtesy lights - is one permanently on like under the dash, or the useless one in the hatch?

Yes there is a part of the wire that runs directly to the battery then back up to the relay in front of the firewall with a 20amp fuse in it. Im pretty sure the multimeter is set to milliamps. it says ma on it ( its the first time I have done this).

The ctsy is the courtesy and the hatch(yes very useless). But with the door shut, no under the hood light and radio disconnected, ntn should be pulling power.

Hmm. Just to check - if you pull that fuse, the ctsy fuse, and the stop/hazard fuse, does the battery remain un-flat?

Yes, with those 3 fuses pulled. There is absolutely no power being pulled from the battery with the car off.

Re: major power drawing with car off.

Assume you also mean that with these 3 fuses pulled, the battery no longer goes flat.

So how long was it taking the battery to go flat with the 3 in? Put them back one at a time, wait that period, and see if it's flat. Narrow down the culprit. Since your biggest draw was the ctsy fuse, start with that one.
