electrical issues

let me start by saying that my fusible links are good. now, i have no power to the lid, tail, and sir fuses. if i run a juper wire from a a good spot on the fuse box to one of the above mentioned fuses, they work w/ no problems (except for super slow blinkers). any ideas of a solution? is it bad/dangerous to run the jumper wire to a good spot? thanks for any help

Re: electrical issues

The great thing about electrical issues is that your problem could literally be anywhere in the car. I hope you've got an ohm-meter, because you're gonna be using it a lot. I don't have a wiring schematic handy, but I don't recall any common wires between those three... you're saying that if you bring power/ground to those functions *after* the fuse, they all work? Are any of the fuses blown, or were they blown and replaced? If any of them are/were blown, you could have a short anywhere behind the fuses in the circuit... the only way I know of to find an electrical issue is to start at the battery and check every wire, every connection with an ohm-meter (and visually, if you can) all the way back around to where it grounds to the body. Look for anyplace that might have gotten hot and melted wires (in my '90 RS, dozens of wires run right over the exhaust manifold, and 3 of them were melted through. -.- ) and places water could've gotten... but don't rule anything out until you've positively tested it. One other thing - make sure you plan for plenty of time to find the problem, because you never know how long it'll take, and if you're on a time crunch you overlook obvious problems.

Re: electrical issues

thanks, yea i have an ohm meter. what gets me, is if i supply power to one of the fuses (via a jumper and working fuse) all three of the fuses have power at that point. its almost like there is a common power for all 3 (like an outlet, how you only have to hook power to one side). to make a long story short.......supply power to one of the fuses that doesnt work, and all 3 will work. it seems like i might have a short somewhere between the fuseblock and the firewall. i say this b/c with everything normal, i have power to every fuse except for the 3, when i supply outside power via a different fuse, all is well. ugh...let the hours of work begin

Re: electrical issues

:P yeah, unfortunately there's no way (that I know of) to make electrical troubleshooting any easier/faster. Post when you find the problem, or with further updates though.

Link Think

You have a bad Fusible Link located at the Starter, or a bad or corroded connection going to it.

Re: electrical issues

What does the fusible link look like. Is it a wire with a black cylinder shaped thing on the wire?
