I will pay someone to come help me with the wiring under my steering column.. Like 50 bucks or something IDGAF anymore I need to get my car on the road by the end of July.

I live in Clearwater, Florida if you are interested in HELPING me.. Not doing it all yourself please PM me. All I need is assistance, not someone to do it for me.

I have a 1988 Camaro... Used to be a TBI.. Swapped that out for a carb.. If anyone can help me.. It will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you everyone.

more info would be good. You might get enough help here to finish it up.

What needs finished? TBI to carb isnt a bad swap at all.

There should be no need to touch any wiring near the column for such a conversion.

What have you messed with ?

Chances are you cut out the two wires for the vss, (purple, and yellow) that go through the C100 connector by the booster, and then inside the chassis harness to the buffer box near the ecu inside the dash.

Or you dont have a working VSS, but have the wires.

Re: Ok.. Im pretty much done with this.

I had a short and bought a brand new wiring harness thinking it would come with everything I need.

Turns out they sent me the completely wrong thing so in the process of cutting all the old wires out I found the short so I got that problem solved. Now I need to know how to re connect all the wires I disconnected/cut.

I dont know what ones go through the firewall and to the fuse box. I dont know what ones I need because of the carb swap.. and what ones I can just throw out.

Any help would be amazing at this point.. all I can do is just sit there and look at it because im lost and im trying to do this right the first time.

I agree. A ton of pics of the issues will help us with what you want to do. It might be to the point a new harness for the dash is all you need if the old can't be fixed. Post some pics so we can help you

Re: Ok.. Im pretty much done with this.

xxZ28xx, I understand your frustration very well, including the overtime. Been working a lot lately myself (though 80-hour work weeks on a 40-hour salary).

You need to understand, however, that fixing someone's wiring over the Internet is not exactly an easy task. And finding somebody local close to you is a matter of luck.

As the guys recommended, good pictures will be the start. They must show the wire colors well so make sure you use the right lighting. Good information is crucial as well.
And describe separate problems separately, possibly one at a time to avoid confusion and information overload.

Good organization is key when working with wiring, especially remotely like in this case.

Hope this helps.
Lou

Okay... I started reading the diagrams and it doesn't seem TO difficult.. But. Im still having some trouble and it would be cool if someone could help now. Ill try to take as many pics as possible, but for now I just have this post that I found...

In the 5th post there is three pictures.. The third picture I have something like that in my car, although not the same very similar. What is that and can someone tell me where the wires go. Actually you don't even need to do that, all I need to know is what it is and what the flasher is for and I think the relay. Then I should be able to work it out.

Also one other question. Im replacing all the original gauges with aftermarket (Not out of free will, because whoever owned this car before me messed it up nothing works with the old gauges. I will restore it one day :P ) The point being.. I cut all the wires that went into that circuit because I shouldn't need them correct? Only would need them for my turn signal lights in the dash which I can live without for now. Every thing else will be electric.

Thanks for the help so far.

Almost positive I got the rear lights wired up right!.. What does the trans-axle switch look like?! Any help would be great! I sat down to look at the wiring diagram and it makes sense for the most part.

Re: Ok.. Im pretty much done with this.

Okay think thats the convenience center.. What flasher and relay is located there? Is it the hazards?! Also Im reading in the manual and Im looking for the brake switch. It says it comes from the fuse box (tail 20A) and its orange then goes to a brake switch where there will be a brown wire.. have yet to find this. I thought this should be right above my brakes.

All that is above my brake is a switch that has a Pink w/black stripe and a yellow. The pink wire gets spliced into about 5 more idk what that is all about.

Re: Ok.. Im pretty much done with this.

Hi Guys, Im having different problem but maybe someone can point me in the right direction.
I have a check engine light that comes on after about 10 minutes of driving, two shops have scanned my 1991 Firebird 3.1l auto both say the data link is not communicating.
I called the local E.C.M rebuilder (python injectors,Stanton,CA) they said data link problem likely a fuse, light is likely due to "spider cracks in P.C.M". that open up after warm up.
the car failed smog test yesterday HC and Co2 levels @ 10time allowable.

Question has anyone else run into these problems and did rebuilding ecm alone take care of it?

Re: Ok.. Im pretty much done with this.

Not to be a dic* but wtf ben. Why would you ever think its alright to just come in here and steal my post. Then everyone is going to end up on your subject and disregard mine. Go make your own thread and get answers directly.

Speaking of this I have my engine wiring back in just a couple questions.. There is a wire that is black and has a red stripe going through it. Looks like the fan wire but the gauge is id say a 10 or 12.. its kinda thick does anyone know where this wire would go.. its either to my battery or starter. (not the battery itself the then right next to the battery where all the power wires connect to and a screw screws them together).

Re: Ok.. Im pretty much done with this.

Yup, Ben is a newbie and he did the same in my thread. I politely asked him not to do that and to start his own thread.

The thick black wire with red stripe sounds like it's the electric engine fan wire. It should end with a two-prong connector by the electric fan that is hopefully mounted on your radiator. If you do not have the electric fan and instead use a mechanical fan, you can ignore that wire.
Diagram here.

Hope this helps.

Yeah lol wasn't trying to be mean.

But anyway, its not the fan wire. The fan wire is I think a 12 gauge this wire is a 10 or a little bigger. It does although look exactly like a fan wire. But the connector on the end is where a screw goes through.. Im thinking this one goes to my starter or that thing next to the battery (Its like a plastic piece with a threaded piece coming out. Then there is a nut you screw on and there are a couple power wires that connect into there.)

I appreciate the help you guys are all providing to me, I don't need to post pictures anymore because I am almost positive I got this all down.

I just have some questions which I'm sure wont be too hard to answer. So I got a new HEI Accell Performance distributor, its non computer controlled so do I just connect the ignition wire coming from the fire wall to the red wire coming off the Distributor?

One more question, how many wires go to my starter, I completely forgot. Im pretty sure its 3 large ones then the purple one goes to the small connecter on the solenoid. The 3 large ones.. its three red wires that go into fusible links then turn orange then connect to where the battery wire connects too? If thats how it goes just confirm and ill be happy!

Thanks once again for all the help this car will be done by the end of this month and two years of hard work will finally pay off once I get to drive this beast!
