Retro Adaptor Tremec T56 T-56 T5/Muncie Replacement
SOLD
This is a Retro Fit T56, built for adapting the strength and performance of the T56 transmission, to older GM style bellhousing, clutch, and speedometer setups. The transmission was completely torn down and inspected. The adaptor will bolt to the T5 bellhousing of your thirdgen and retain use of the stock linkage.
The transmission can be upgraded with a steel 3/4 shift fork, billet steel synchro keys on the synchros, and/or bronze shift fork pads. The result can be a torque rating in the 500+ ft/lb range! Anyone interest can just give me the list of performance parts you want added and I can quote and drop them in.
Here are some of the main features:
* Standard stronger LS1 T56 gear ratios, using LS1 input shaft
* Carbon Fiber synchro blocker rings
* Front steel adapter plate drilled for both Muncie/T10/saginaw bellhousing, and the 18deg rotated bellhousing used by the T5 Camaro/Firebirds
(optional) Billet Steel synchro keys on 1-2 gear and also 3-4 gear. Broken stock stamped steel synchros are a major reason for failure under high horsepower applications.
(optional) Steel 3-4 shift fork as found on viper T56s. The stock aluminum 3-4 shift fork will commonly bend under high horsepower applications.
(optional) Bronze shift fork pads to replace stock plastic pads that wear and cause the trans to pop out of gear.
This is a high quality rebuild with the highest level of attention to detail. Here are the main shimming specs that were used for a performance rebuild:
Main shaft: 0.002" Preload
Counter shaft: 0.003" Preload
Counter shaft extension: 0.002" End-Play
Case and all parts were cleaned and inspected. The case was not sand blasted to keep grit out of the internals.
For detailed pictures of the build please contact and they will be Emailed to you.
Local pickup (19711) is preferred, but shipping would be $100-$150 depending on your location.
Please feel free to contact with any questions.
$1900 + optional hard parts + S/H

It's not a retrofit as shipped from tremec, it has the adaptor plate for the T5 and LS1 internals (MM6 gearset ratios, 2.66 1st, etc.)
No shifter.
No shifter.

Re: Retro Adaptor Tremec T56 T-56 T5/Muncie Replacement
Yes, as with any retrofit T56, you would still need a new (or modified) Xmem since the T56 mount is different than the T5. (http://www.skulte.com/index.php/cPath/22).
I haven't mounted one in a 3rdgen personally, but at least in addition to what you have to do for the actual retrofit, you would have to:
http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Borg.../bwt56pics.cfm
- enlarge the floorpan shifter hole
- reprogram for the 4thgen VSS, or use a dakota box, or aftermarke electonic speedo.
- replace your pilot bushing with an extended bushing
thanks

Re: Retro Adaptor Tremec T56 T-56 T5/Muncie Replacement
Could you tell me where you got the offset shift lever and roll pin? I have a GTO tranny but need to put a f-body shifter on and can't find one.
Thanks

Contact Mike at <sales@txmotorsports.com>, ask for a tremec offset lever 1386-098-016. Should be about $20. If you need the shifter cup also, it's 1352-127-009. The roll pin is 1332-043-004.

Re: Retro Adaptor Tremec T56 T-56 T5/Muncie Replacement
Sorry, to clarify; does this trans. provide for both mechanical and VSS setups? In one post you mention an extended pilot bushing. Is this because the LS input shaft is shorter than the one Tremec would put into their retrofit to clear the adapter plate? Will this spline for sure to an LT1 in the front and a stock 3rd gen drive shaft? Thanks,Jon

Re: Retro Adaptor Tremec T56 T-56 T5/Muncie Replacement
VSS setup only. You'll need a stock electric speedo, Dakota converter, or Autometer Speedo.
Extended pilot needed, correct. The LS1 shaft is 1/2" shorter than the real retro shaft. (Of course you benefit from the stronger LS1 gear set, over the retro)
The Input Splines will fit the LT1 clutch disc (26-spline). The output splines will fit a stock 3rdgen or 4thgen drive shaft (27-spline).
thanks
