SOLD

Up for sale is a 3.42 locking differential out of my 1987 camaro. It has all new bearings and seals and only 10k miles on the new diff, pinion, bearings, and seals. It has aluminum drum brakes with %60 life left on the shoes. It has the typical rust on the housing and could be sanded and repainted. I have the receipt too for the proffesional installation. the wheels and tires are sold separately as a set of 4 for $50.

I want $150 for the rear end assembly.
Pickup only.
I will travel to a local area by me for the buyer to pick up the rearend if that makes things more comfortable.
located in brewster, ny
Thanks
Tim

Re: 3.42 locking rear

Wow that sounds extremely serious. Sorry to to hear that.
I wouldn't mind doing it but you live very far away. So the answer is sorry but no I can't install it. If you know someone closer it takes about 4 hours to remove the rear end and install the new one. That was doing it on my garage floor.

Re: 3.42 locking rear

The rear end worked very well in my car. Billion times better than an open diff and way better than the stock limited slip. The only reason I took it out was to put in a 2.73 rear to go along with my lockup converter for commuting to college. I will say swapping over to the 2.73's was almost a waste of my time. I should have left the 3.42's in. Thanks for the bump.

Re: 3.42 locking rear

Almost tempting enough to make the drive.
Not only for the part and install but just to **** off my wife. lol
The added bonus would be I wouldn't have to redo the rear brakes from popping a wheel cylinder.
( nothing like having near brake failure trying to stop for a passing fire truck) think I popped a hose too.
but the fronts worked great! Got hot as hell but stopped the car.e-brake was no help since the drums were soaked with brake fluid.

Re: 3.42 locking rear

This is complete, like i can bolt into my car (granted i would need to add fluid) to the rear end? I have a 88 tbi 305 with drum brakes ( i do realize i will need to add a prop valve) btw.

Re: 3.42 locking rear

It is a direct bolt in. the only thing it would need is parking brake cables. I cut them because it did not matter as I was swapping over to disc brakes. It has royal purple fluid and new gasket in it from when the rear was installed a few years ago. As for the proportioning valve I am pretty sure you do not need one because it is a drum brake setup.

Thanks for your interest
