350 to t-5

I have an 84' z28 with a carbed lG4 and a borg warner t-5. I want to put a 350 in it and I had some questions about the swap.
I was wondering if the flywheel, cluch, and starter would fit and work without problems. If it doesnt what should I use

Everything will bolt up and work. You may need to pick up a different flywheel depending on whether the 350 you use is 1 piece or 2 piece rear main seal, because the 84 has 2 piece main seal.

hi

im looking to do this as well,

if i have a 2 piece rear main seal because my car is also an 4 that means i need to find a 350 with a 2 piece seal also? will this make my stack fly wheel compatible? what fly wheel should i change to if all i would do is swap the block and leave all my heads intake accesories the same?

what is the difference in the fly wheel for a 350 and a 305, i dont understand why it would be different, i think the tranny would care what fly wheel not the block.

thanks for any help you can give us guys with out 350's :

I asked the same thing about a month ago...Only difference is I have an older 350 and wanted to swap to a T-5 from an 85. You should have everything, Only other thing I heard was you might have to drill and tap another hole into the flange where the flywheel bolts up. Other then that it should be pretty straight foward.

I just did a similar swap. I pulled the 305 with WC T-5 out of my 91 Formula and stuck it on a late 70's style block made into a 383. I had to get an externally balanced flywheel for the 2 piece rear main seal. The main thing you have to watch for is to get a 153 tooth flywheel or it won't fit inside the T-5 bell housing. Then make sure you get a starter that will work with a 153 tooth flywheel (apparently all of them won't). I went thru 2 of them for a 168 tooth flywheel in 20 minutes before I got a 153 compatible model from Summit. The bolt patterns between the WC and NWC T-5's are the same as for attaching the tranny to the BH, and the BH mounting to the engine is the same. Hope this helps.

Have a Great Day!!

If you're talking about a 383 - then yes, you need a "unbalanced" flywheel for the 400 crank that the 383 uses..... Like vernw has.

350's are internally balanced. Your flywheel will bolt up. So will your tranny, starter etc...if it's a two piece seal block. But being a late 70's block, you probably have a driver's side dipstick. You'll need another oil pan. The one off your 84 won't work.

Just wanted to clear that up.

BTW vern, I'm drooling over that car of yours. Nice!

Thanks for the engine compliments, folks! I'm still working on the tuning, but it's showing some real potential. As for the "shine", a lot of that shine is from the camera flash (I took it at night in the garage). Now that it's installed, there's no where near that much glare, plus the A/C and A.I.R. crud pretty well hides the entire passenger side of the motor anyway. I'll try to get some new pix of it in the car in the next day or so and post them on my cardomain site if anyone is interested. Sorry to almost hijack the thread, that was not my intention!

Make sure you replace the pilot bushing in the crankshaft. I recommend going with a pilot bearing instead of a brass bushing, I got mine from the local GM dealer, just a few dollars more (under $20 total as I remember).

Good Luck with your swap, I guess we'll find out how well the T-5's hold up together! I'd definitely recommend a pretty good clutch, I used one of the RAM Kevlar clutch kits (got it from Summit), but they say not to use that one with slicks or racing tires --- which is not a problem for me. I've only got 125 miles on my new 383 so far and am babying it for the first 500 or so..... plus we're still EFI tuning.

Have a Great Day!

fun stuff

yeah yeah they say dont use slicks:nono:hehehehe
so if the block is new like from the 80's itll be the same as my 305 minus the fact its a 350, and if its a 70's block itll have the dipstick on the drivers side and ill need a new oil pan, not really a problem mine has a huge dent.

fill in this blank if im thinkiing right, I shouldget a 350 block newer than ______.

I think it would be safe to say blocks after 1979 would work
