Since this will be my first engine swap, I'm a little technically challenged. I'm swapping from a blown 305 to another 305 TBI, but I believe that the motor I bought came from a truck, though I may be wrong. What I'm wondering, is there any difference as far as torque in the car and truck motors, i.e. bigger crank? Please note, I admitted I was technically challenged lol. Thanks for any helpful info on this.

either its exactly the same or it has less horse and more torque. Either way a cam swap is in order.

Cams cost about $100 plus shipping off of summit. Swap it and you'll be alot happier.

The blocks should be both roller. Some of the earlier TBI trucks did not have roller blocks. The later ones did but did not use roller cams. They made less power than the LO3 did but that is mainly due to the non roller cam (super lame cam here folks) and mechanical fan. The heads also had larger chambers with much less compression than the LO3. I think it was at 8.5:1 vs your LO3's 9.3:1. I would at least look for a set of 305 TPI heads and an LT1 cam. Even better would be to find a 350. They can be had for so cheap and you hate to see people go through all the work of a swap to litterally lose power.

Had a friend who's helping me with the swap stop by the other day. While he was looking at the engine, he noted that the engine came from an auto tranny vehicle, and the flexplate was balanced for it. He told me that i may have to get the motor balanced after adding my flywheel to it. Is this true, and if so, how much can I be prepared to spend for balancing?

Your flywheel is balanced in exactly the same way. If it fits (and it should, if both engines are 1986-later), it will work.
