2.8 blew up, in comes dad's 350

It's a '69 350 out of a GTO that burnt up. Ill go over performance upgrades later. Its bolted to a TH400 tranny. How do I know if the shifter will be in the right place? AKA, will it come up through my stock console where it should? Also, will I use headers designed for the '69 GTO motor, or for an 82-92 Firebird. Thanks guys! I know v6 to v8 is a pain, it won't stop me.

Sounds like it's a Pontiac motor. Which is not at all the same as a Chevrolet 350, which is the 350 that would have come in one of these cars. Nothing bolts up the same way. Basically, it's a foreign motor to one of these cars, and you're doing a transplant.

You might want to do a search, maybe read the sticky. It's not a trivial swap.

As far as headers, you'll need 82-92 Camaro/Firebird headers to fit a Pontiac motor. You won't find them cheap.

The shifter will be among the least of your worries. It doesn't "come through" the console in any case. An auto shifter sits on top of the console.

Completely forgot that all of the 1982-92 motors were the same and that there were differences in Chevrolets and Pontiacs back then. Damn, this is going to be a huge job. LOL wish me luck

You would be miles, hours, and dollars ahead, to say nothing of HP, if that Goat powertrain went into Hemmings Motor News or eBay instead. Use the proceeds to buy a 3rd gen factory V8 donor car.

I am completely serious about this.

(I also thought the only thing available in a '69 Goat was a 400, but I'm not exactly a Pontiac history expert.)

Click on the "1969 Engine Codes & Production Totals" link if it doesn't come up on the 1969 table.

YUP according to five7's info he posted the 350 wasnt an option until 1974 ....

you need to find out what engine this is that you have

if it is a 350 or 400 ? and what year it came from and what type of vehicle...

Yeah, was gonna say, 350's getting dropped into goats didnt come till mid 70's...it starts to mark the fall of pontiac's personality, in my oppinion, and begins turning pontiac muscle into a bunch of chevy clones...(along with the fall of the 455SD in pontiac bonnevilles and firebirds in...i wanna say 76?) Although pontiac did make one major comeback, using the GNX's 3.8 turbo in the 89 trans am 20th anniversary...

getting back on topic, it is not at all uncommon to find chevy 350's dropped into older pontiacs. Ive seen it all the time...It isnt true restoration, but the 350 is a block pretty easy to find parts for and work on...especially if its a 2 bolt main.

If its a 350, it should be a really simple install...but im sure you'll need new motor mounts...

If its a 400, the benchmark block of the goat in the 60's, its gonna be a tricky swap...but hell, its pretty awesome to see antique blocks in newer cars...

Hey guys, sorry it took so long to post back, been busy at work. The car it is coming out of is a '69 LeMans, not a GTO. I must have had GTO's on my mind, my Grandpa is talking about getting one of the 2005's

makes a little more sense.

I mean, pontiac did make 350's...they dropped em into birds in 68 and 69...but I still think those 350's are chevy engines.

but if it bolts down to the motor mounts...booyah, man.

however, as has been posted, third gen birds use chevy motor mounts...so if its a true pontiac 350, yer could have an interesting time mounting it.

by the way, is it a 350 2bbl or the 350HO 4bbl?
