lt1 swap and 4l60e questions , everyone in here. help
I might be doing an lt1 swap if the price is right , and it prolly will be . I think its gonna be a pita to hook all the electronics up , someone correct me if im worng on that . SO ive been lookin at carbed lt1 stuff. 260 for the manifold and 380 for a 670 cfm holly i want , then i need a distributor and then headers but i need them for the lt1 anyway . My question is now if i go carbed how does the electronice trans know when to shift. This stuff is all out of a 94 vette with the 4l60e . ????? Is this possible to do the carb and still have the trans work ???? I thought they sold a module to plug the trans into so it will shift . ???help .

If you want to get a definition of PITA, do a carb'd LT1. Especially with a 4L60E. Doing the electronics up front will be much more straight forward.
As one particular member might say, a carb'd LT1 would be "a lot of maze for very little cheese".

Keep the FI set up on it. Do what I did read up on all the wiring here that you can. Then get the wiring look over it and it will all come together I have not done the swap yet but it dose not look that bad.

Do you get the computer with the 'vette?
Thinking about cash outlay and labor sends me down the road of a painless wiring engine harness for a stock 94-95 computer. It allows 4L60E or 4L80E transmissions and includes vats bypass. A little over 600 bucks from PAW but a LOT less headache...

well find a 700r4 and sell off the 4l60E.
get a TV cable and try to make or see if there is a custom bracket for 700r4's and carbs. I'm sure there is.
that way you have LT1 with no electronic stuff to shift the trans
if you keep the FI, i have LT1 swap fuel lines from pure choice motorsports that i'm selling

I don't think a 4l60e out of a vette will work but I'm not for sure.
Once you trim down the wiring harness for what you need, its maybe 15 wires. Trimming down the harness is the hard part but you can do that with the wiring out of the car. The LT1 carb manifold isn't that great either.
It might be better if you find an F-body LT1 donor car. I'm pretty sure you'll need to swap in a f-body oil pan and f-body fuel rails on the vette LT1. Then there isn't as much wiring schematics out there for the vette as there is the f-body. Also, 94 still has the un-vented opti which is a bad thing. Like I said before, the vette tranny might not swap over. Best bet is to find a 95 f-body LT1.

You can swap the tailshaft housing from the 700r4 (4L60) to the 4L60E to use it in an f-car.
You can use a normal 87-up SBC oil pan as well.

Some of the PCMs can be readily converted over to stand-alone transmission controllers if youll be running a carb and you want something other then 3rd gear with your 4L60-E. In the PCMs, the transmission and engine controls are fairly seperate, so alot of the engine stuff can be disabled. You then just need (in addition to all the 4L60-E stuff), a CTS, TPS, and MAP sensor + harness. This, however, requires knowlege and expertise in computer tuning/reprogramming as youll basically have to calibrate the PCM to be transmission only. Stand-alone trans project will have good "ooohhh-aaahhh" factor, but if your looking to take the easy way out by using a carb, the trans end will come up from behind and bite you right square in the ***. Its likely easier to just swap everything as a whole and use the stock FI.

is there anywhere to buy a pcm that only has the vats removed?? so its like plug and play without purchasing the hole wiring harness??

Or you could figure out the resistance of the chip in the key and buy a resistor matching about the same resistance then wire that resistor up.
Either way, you still need the whole wiring harness.
