'85 2.8L V6 swap to a 305 or 350 V8 HELP!

My 2.8L V6 engine finally gave up on me after 350,000 mile on it. I thought she'd go forever! My question is, if I upgrade to a 305 or 350 V8 engine, will the 5-speed transmission that is in the car now work with the upgraded engine, or is there an adapter that can be purchased to make it work for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bellhousings on V6 cars are different bolt patterns than V8 cars (60 degree motors vs. 90 degree motors).

Some have said there might be an adapter or something to make it work.

You can get a V8 bellhousing and mount it up. However, the clutch can be an issue, because the input shaft of the V6 tranny is smaller than the V8 version, so you can't use a V8 clutch disk. I've heard a 4.3 S10 disk has the proper spline size and is almost as large as a V8 disk, so you can use it with a V8 flywheel and pressure plate.

But, the V6 T5 is very weak (see "input shaft" above), so you won't be able to drive it like it's got a V8.

Your best bet, if you want to keep a manual transmission, is to get a V8 version.

I would not put a TH350 in a street car.
