Headers from SLP, get it done or do it yourself?
I'm pretty much set on getting the ceramic coated SLP headers, but as far as installation, i have no idea what to do.
If its possible to put them in with a jack, and four stands, and your usual tools, like a Husky kit and stuff, then i might do it. But if i have to remove the engnine, or have the car raised like 3 feet forget.
What do u guys think, my car is the sig. I dont have the headers yet but i will.

It's 12 manifold bolts, and 4 y-pipe bolts. Install is reverse removal. Sounds easy, right? But don't pull your motor and you don't even need it jack it up. If you never done anything like this, set aside lots of time.

If you're thinking of doing yourself, my guess is that you're capable. Like said, give yourself plenty of time. Besides, I don't trust many other people to work on my car, and I wouldn't trust them with yours, either. Go for it.

No, you DO have to jack to motor up, At least I did on my car. But it's easy. It tooke me more than 6 hours (more like 12) but I had some snags like spark plugs and that damn AIR tube to the CAT.

Well i completely understand thats its gonna be a very time consuming job. To me i just look at it this way, all it basically is, is to get those manifolds out, and figure a way to put those headers in, thats it. I mean the job itself is walk in park right, unscrew a few bolts, and then put them back. Just the trick is to reach those damn things....lol.
Now plant protection, it seems like u sayin that i wont need to pull the motor, nor jack the car up? What u saying its possible to just put them in with the hood up? Maybe i misread u, but i'm taking all possibilities into account here.
In the end though i would SO much rather do it myself. I hate trusting others to do it, unless i know them personally then i wouldnt care. Cause u see i know a friend is very mechanically inclined, and hes willing to help if i run into problems, so i sort of a have backup just in case.
The price difference would like $650 do it myself, or $1000+ someone else. Use that $400 saved money and buy cat-back!

if i got headers i would put them in myself, but the thing is i dont like taking apart half my engine bay to install them..
the other problem is that my grandfather said that i dont need to replace stuff thats not broke...
he doesnt like the idea of me driving a fast car as it is, and installing more performance parts to it..
so thats why i am staying stock for the time being... untill he losens up a bit and helps me install stuff and most importanly that me use the garage..

Just a suggestion - You might want to do a search in this forum on SLP header installs. That should give you more of a feel for what others have had to do when installing their own. And having a mechanically inclined friend around is never a bad thing. Besides, like you said, why put the rest of the money in someone else's pocket? Get the cat-back too! :lala:

GTATransAM and MdFormula350 those are some really nice 'birds you're driving. I can't blame GTATransAM for wanting to do it himself I don't trust other mechanics either. You do have to get the car off the ground, the higher the better, just be safe and don't rush it. Do it right the first time. You'll do fine.

Hey thanks 92blkl98. Ya doing it myself is sure the way everyone is choosing. So obviously when i order the headers, im gonna try and put them. And hey if worse comes to worse and i cant do it, i could always take it in. But believe me, i dont give up no matter what. Unless under almost impossible circumstances that im faced i would finally give in, but i dont think headers are going to give the "impossible mission".
Well everyone practically choose do it myself, so i'm gonna do that. U know before i posted this question i was like 25% to do it myself, now i'm like 75%. Maybe when i get the full instructions on how to do it, i'll be 100%
Thanks guys.
