true dual are being made HERE

hEY GUYS check out www.laneswheels.com . he is making true duals for our cars and fourth gens. just go to PERFORMANCE then FBODYS. also check ls1.com in the texas forum and look for true dual pics. he is now making dual going over the axle this is what we have been looking for.

i have talked to him myself about my third gen and he told me he will make them . this was before he made them for the ls1's . Lane is also thinking about pre fabing them to lower the price. give him a call he is a really nice guy and knows his stuff. fast car too.

Those look pretty good. The ground clearance looks better than the stock LS1 exhaust systems. My friend's '01 SS drags real bad with the stock exhaust, it hangs lower than that dual setup!
If he made one for our cars, I'd be all over it.

it can be done but the main problem with our cars is that the front subframe doesnt really allow it as easily as fourthgens. Also if you want to run it over the rear axles the fuel injected cars appear to be about out of luck. We checked it out and there seems to be room in my car(origionally lg4) but in my friends(l98) there is a lot less clearance which appears to be something to do with the gas tank.

It's a sweet setup but I was reading his post on LS1.com or camaroz28.com and he removed the track bar brace for more clearance for the drivers side pipe over the axle. He said it's not really necessary to remove it but I don't know if that's something I'd do on a daily driver....but for a drag car only it might be alright without it.

the back of the car spends alot of time like that actually lol

in the spring im swapping in a 12-bolt or a dana 60 so when im under there i'll try to get some more pics of the whole shooting match

Huh.... those videos of the cars sounded pretty nice. I always wanted to know what one of those bullet mufflers sounded like. They seem to have a real deep throaty exhaust note on those cars, not overly loud and obnoxious like I expected.

I mostly post on LS1.com, Lane is the man!!! He does awsome work, and yes LS1's with his full 3" dual exhaust can have more groud clearance than a custom 3" y-pipe because you can run an X-pipe closer to the body because it doesn't move as much when revved. As far as the upper panhard rod, it really isn't necessary unless you autocross or drive like you're at one. Lane said that on an LS1, he'd probably need to go with a dual 2.5" set up over the axle if you want to keep the upper panhard. I'm willing to bet he could fit a 2.5" or a 2" over most 3rd gens rear axles. The smaller size would probably be better for the 3rd gens less powerfull engines, wouldn't lose as much low end torque and they don't really rev as high. But you can never tell untill someone does a before and after with a few sizes, like we've done with the LS1's. The reason they run dual 3" on LS1 is because those things MOVE AIR. It is really needed when you run head and cams. There was a guy, CyberDoberman, on LS1.com that gained over 30RWHP when he went from a stock manifolds with a 3" catback to Full length headers with Lane's treu duals and a little LS1Edit. The only reason I don't have 'em on my LS1 is because they are way to loud for my taste. I couldn't imagine driving around with that much sound all the time. I was thinking about having Lane figure me out a system that can go from emmisions legal and quiet to no cats and no mufflers with the removal of a section, something to think about I guess.

deadbird, what year car is yours and what kind of injection system did it have factory? I found that my car appears to have more room than my friends. Mine is a 85 t/a that had an lg4 origionally and his is a 89 Iroc w/ 350 tpi.

My 'bird is a '87 305 TPI 5 speed. Everything 82-92 is laid out on the same basic 'chassis'. Aside from fuel lines and minor added bracing up front, no one year should have more room on the underside than the next.

I didnt think that the car its self was different, but it seemed that his tank hung lower than mine giving less room to run it between the panhard bar. I dont know.

You might actually be right Ben, I can't say for sure on that one. I can tell you that my 'bird (87) and camaro (84) both seem identical under the back as far as gas tanks & heat shields go

It's hard to tell from the picture but, the tube actually doesn't run over the panhard bar, it runs right over the corner where it's bolted. The tube has a bend around the spring so it wouldn't be hovering over the panhard bar incase I hit some huge dip.
I (briefly) had some drop springs on that only gave about 1" clearance between the mount and the tube, even then, driving around my neighborhood, it only rubbed 1 time when I hit a real good sized bump taking a right turn. Since the weather is crap here now and I'm not springing $$ on tires for the car to sit, I can't really report much more about it.
If rubbing does become an issue though, I still have about another 1" I can raise that sides pipe w/o touching the panhard brace.

I spent under $150 making my dual exhaust. Mainly because I made my mufflers as well.

You guys have got to check out Willie's setup. I have been able to see it (and HEAR it) in person, and it KICKS BUTT!!! I watched the guy do some of the work and he made it look easy. I hope to have him do mine soon.

Reading this board, I thought running duals on a 3rd gen was a pain until I built my own. Dual 2.5's with headman headers and the subframe connectors are the lowest point in the car. If you want it done to your car bring your mufflers and $400. Sorry for no pictures, but it is very nice with only 2 pieces of pipe per side.
