Isn't there a distinct notice at the engine when runnin headers for a first timer...A friend told me it's not likely with shorties.....Is it for longtubes only?

Headers are headers... that 'tinny' sound should be there with either, just probably more pronounced with the long tubes.

i had stock manifolds and a hooker catback with my stock 305... it sounded good and was relatively loud
got some shortie headers now, and a custom ypipe, and hooker catback still, and its actually quieter, and much much deeper.... more of a rumble to it... of course its now a 400 pushing the exhaust through it... and i havent put my pedal to the floor yet...
