Exhaust Ideas. 1986 305 TPI
Ok everyone I need an idea of what I should do for my car. Preferable custom.
My idea was to have straight pipes from the headers to a dual cat and catback, leading out to 2 mufflers out the back.
It was a cool idea to me till someone said it wouldn't work. Now I'm lost and not sure of what to do.
I want something loud. Even louder than the car already is. Help is much apprieciated
Thanks,

Re: Exhaust Ideas. 1986 305 TPI
"Loud" is a very vague description. Some people think that a Flowmaster 80's series is too loud, others will say that open headers aren't too loud for daily driving. You would have serious ground clearance issues with your proposed idea. Maybe you should check out the Third gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection sticky up top for quite a few great example of what you could do.

Re: Exhaust Ideas. 1986 305 TPI
are you wanting to do true duals? it can be done but will depend on how you route the pipes and how low the car sits.
If you are using shortie headers, you can run true dual 2.5" down the factory location possibly into 2 cats if you need them, and then over the axle into 2 bullet style mufflers.
check the sticky on the top of the exhaust board for true dual exhaust picture collection. that will give you ideas

There is a true dual setup that follows along the origional routing, for like $165 on Summit. I think it's a dynomax. pipes only, and either 2.25 or 2.5 OD. either way, seems like a reasonable price. check it out.

That is a pretty good idea. What about having a double cat and catback. I know I have to push the idea though of having double.

Re: Exhaust Ideas. 1986 305 TPI
The more powerful the engine, the louder it is. I didn't think so, until I built a full roller wicked little 327. Even with a "quiet" exhaust it is blasting loud, so much so that I may end up using 4 mufflers on the car to keep it more stealthy. W/ a big roller cam and aftermarket heads the tone is just so radical I can't keep it quiet enough for me.
If you want a really loud engine, build a powerful powerplant. The mufflers will then be a secondary consideration.

Re: Exhaust Ideas. 1986 305 TPI
I installed true duals on my lowerd to the ground 85 t/a. Ground clearence was an issuse, so i build the system out of 2 1/2 oval exhaust tubing i got from Dr gas. At the time of the pics i had put my old flowmaster on, till it fell off and i loved the sounds the straight pipes made. {Sounded like the brick yard 500 everytime i took off down the road} Since then i bought two magnaflow oval 5 x 8 muffs and ran the pipes to the small space on the sides of the trunk well. Sounds great. Definatly not loud, but i ganed so much tourqe, and i like the stealth sound it has till i uncork it. ill put up some pics of the finished mufflers. when i get a min. oh yeah, some assembly required,

Re: Exhaust Ideas. 1986 305 TPI
Sorry to bump such an old thread (I found this thread in a Google seach looking for TPI intake images), but I think somehow the pictures that were in this post have been changed at the site it was hosted at. It IS still a sweet setup tho.
