Any recommendations for a stock style muffler(single in dual out) for a 305tbi car. dont care about any performance gains and the rest of the system is stock and staying that way, just want a nice good sound. When i got the car it had a single in single out cheapy muffler on it, wanna go back to the stock style with something with a nicer sound.

i've looked at all of those and a few others, but im looking for personal expeirence with them, so i know which sounds good and good quality. Im leaning towards the hooker, ive had hooker headers on every car ive ever owned, but keeping this one stock means no header.

I'd go with the Dynomax super turbo muffler. Thats what I and allot of other RS 305 TBI owners have. They sound really good and you'll get some performance gain. An open air cleaner might make it sound louder because it brings in more air. The stock air intake set up just doesn't bring in enough air.

I'm a fan of the Magnaflow systems myself....

Flowmaster drones too much for me....

The way an exhaust sounds is a lot of personal preference.

Yeah, the drone on a Flowmaster was unbearable for me. I sold mine for half what I paid for it 2 weeks after I got it.

my car in my sig had hooker shortys and a 3inch single with no cats and a flowmaster setup for our cars, didn't sound bad. If. I did it again, I would do hooker shorty (2460?) And do the spintech or hooker. I think hooker makes more power but spintech sounds better..

Magnaflow, sounds really nice(not too loud) when idel, roars when you stomp on it.

After looking at a few of the cat back systems and going thru some post here ive decided to go with a dynomax catback, for the price and since im planning to keep the car mechanically stock i think it'll suit my needs. quieter will be nice anyways this is kinda my cruiser. My pickup already runs hooker longtubes into true 3" duals into hooker aeros, so shes plenty loud. Anyways

anyone order one of these kits before, im not 100% sure which one is right, im thinking its 17493 the otheres look like there sold for the tpi cars.

I have 2210s with the 4 inch mufflex pipe into a spintech 4 inch into two 3 inch outlets and it is the best sounding exhaust I have ever heard and it is quiet too.

The Aerochamber all day, everyday. Nice and mellow cruising but sounds like the gates of hell at WOT. I LOVE mine.

I use the Borla which has provisions for some sound tuning.

I agree with the personal preference thing but what is the drone sound? I have a Flowmaster 80 on my Z and I don't know what you mean by that. When I think of a droning sound I think of a constant background buzzing type sound that interferes with the wanted sound. I went to the Flowmaster website and listened to several vids they have and couldn't detect what you're talking about. Can you point me in the right direction?

hard to describe.... Its just the pitch of the sound at cruising RPM's. Its especially prevalant on the 80 Series. ALmost tolerable on the 40's, but still not my cup of tea.

Flowmaster drone = blowing into a jug til it goes "OHMMMMM".

It gets to a point where the whole thing just resonates a weird really loud frequency.

EXACTLY what infernal says. I just put a Flowmaster 80 on my 91 with a 3 inch in and dual 3's out and the "OHMMMMM" sound is insane. I also know that it's compounded because i'm not running any tips as of yet. It's growing on me but as soon as I save up some money it's getting an Aerochamber for sure. I LOVE it on my 88.

Yours may not do it for whatever reason. It's very obvious. I think my car as I hit 1600 RPMs it would start and then around cruising rpms at 2000 RPM it would be super obvious.

Hey guys i had the same question.Right now im running the stock stupid Dynomax that makes my car sound like its not even running unless you gun it. I just finished the 350 swap.Im running headers into a 3 inch Y pipe,then into a 2.25 system all the way back. Ive been looking at the Super 44,the 40 series,the 80,and some other options. Flowmaster is really all i have to choose from sadly. I just had a ton of exhaust work done and i really dont want to change anything,just the muffler. Im more so looking for that Deep rumble tone

A lot of people dont like the flowmaster but i personally like mine. I cant hardly hear my drone. It has that nice rumble when at idle and sounds good getting on it. Maybe its the 3 inch flowmasters that drone, because im running a full 2 1/2 inch exhaust into a 2 1/2 80 series flowmaster. Flowmaster is recommendation, but if i had a 2nd choice i would go with the hooker muffler.

I had stock L03 manifolds and stock 2.25 inch I-pipe and my drone was awful. I didn't mind it so much, but it was very obvious and the whole car would just "OHMMMM" all over the place on the highway...

I'd run flowmasters again on a non-performance car meant to be a cruiser, but I have a lot of patience when it comes to noise. I have concerns about how well flowmasters work for high horsepower builds, and taking the horsepower hit isnt something Im making enough power to deal with right now. But I do think they sound great.

To the guy who just had a lot of exhaust work done with the 350 - you definitely need something bigger than a 2.25 inch intermediate pipe. That's awful. I'd just run the generic 3 inch flowmaster catback. Just one hideaway exit out the side under the rear bumper cover - pn 17151 is the one I'd go with.
