New Cat or Flowmaster...Help me DECIDE!!

So I got a 1984 z28 carbed, and I was wondering on what I should do, replace my cat which I believe is stock but good? Or trow in a flowmaster 10 series muffler?? I am looking for some performance and sound, thanks!

I will end up doing both either way regardless but I was wondering what I really should do 1st...thanks!

Well the sound comes froms the muffler so why would you put a aftermarket cat on with a stock muffler if your looking for sound.

Re: New Cat or Flowmaster...Help me DECIDE!!

well the Flowmater 80 is not a loud muffler and put a cat infront of it and you will not have the sound you want. You could always drop the front of the mid pipe and look to see it the cat is broken or what not. My cat was all broken up inside and i had no idea till I took the mid pipe off. A high flow cat is not going to give you much more sound at all if any. The issue is the muffler.

. If your running the stock cat with the stock small piping that is not mandrel bent and 2.5/small exit pipes on the muffler that combo can have a effect on volume/sound.Mine has the Flowmaster 80 series American Thunder cat back with 3in. piping and 3in.exit pipes, and a high flow Magnaflow cat. and it is loud.

Re: New Cat or Flowmaster...Help me DECIDE!!

i would probably go with a new highflow cat regardless especially if ur current one is stock. they dont flow all that well and can be a restriction even if it is fine compared to the newer flow high style cats. From there i would then chose a muffler depending on preference. magnaflow= nice quiet rumble at idle sounds great at WOT and is stainless. Everyone and there mom has a flowmasters. they sound good as well but dont flow as well as magnaflow. were u looking for an entire catback system or just mufflers?
