Shorty Headers and Fuel line interference on Carbureted Cars?
I'm half way through installing Headman shorty headers on my 83 Z28. have the complete kit with the crossover pipe and the works... The issue is the factory steel fuel line that runs up and over the transmission and up the passenger side frame rail to the mechanical fuel pump.
The passenger side collector is REALLY tight to the fuel lines... Really tight as in touching them.
Anyone else notice this?
Anyone recommend a fix?

not touching but it is close enough to cause problems. When I ran a carb I moved mine as far away as possible (not much allowable movement) and ran a heat sleeve over them. Keep your return style pump and return line. it's necessary.
I've also seen a piece of thin sheet metal installed between the lines and the exhaust. No experience with that fix though.
I experienced fuel boiling on a few occasions when I put a lot of highway miles on mine (a few hours straight). not after the heat sleeves were installed but the highway traveling had pretty much ended by then in that car.

I have hedman longtubes and they don't touch but the line still gets toasted. It's heat wrapped. I had boiling issues until switching to a pusher electric pump (holley blue pump). Ever since it's been smooth sailing, and that's without a return line.

Thanks for both replies..
My plan is to bend the two lines at the fire wall and try to bring them up and on top of the frame rail earlier... that would yield about 1 1/2" of clearance.
Header installs... What a joy.. I've had them in and out of the car now three time... on to #4.
