some help on a 2nd battery plz
i searched and didnt find what i was looking for but im sure its been done. i want to put a 2nd battery in my 88, kinda to run the lights and sterio when the car isnt running. but i want the 2nd battery to hook up to the main system so it gets changed and if 1 battery is dead the other could take over(but when the extras are on it doesnt kill the main battery). besides the obvious of finding a place for the 2nd battery, how would i hook up such a system? and would i need to upgrade to a stronger alternator? the motor is a 350, mechinal fan, umm t-5, stock motor. i think this would be a good idea or is it bad? any help ofcourse is welcomed and thank you.
or should i hav put this in the electronics board?

Search for dual battery isolator on yahoo or google. Offroad sites are going to have the most information. There are several ways you can configure such a setup I think... as extra power, as a backup, etc. Also, lowrider sites might be helpful as well... I'm not positive on that, but they do have to run an awful lot of batteries to run their hydraulics, so I have to assume they know something about it.
Here's some I found: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...atteries.shtml

As far as placement goes, you can relocate both batteries to the trunk, go to a 4th gen washer fluid resevoir and put the second battery there, or perhaps relocate your charcoal canister. Some would recommend you remove the charcoal canister, but it does serve the purpose of dealing with gas fumes, and doesn't cost HP. I'd leave it.
