Custom T-top and Targa top Roller Sun Shades

Hey everyone, my name is Willie and i live in northeastern Ohio. Ive always loved the 3rd gen Camaro and Firebird, expecially the T-top cars. Only last year was i finally able to buy my dream Camaro with T-tops! Then spring came along with good cruising weather so for the first time i was able to remove my tops and enjoy the sunshine. I quickly realized the downside of T-tops at a red light, T's are great but theres nothing protecting you from the suns rays frying you as you wait in traffic or during anytime of your commute. So I came up with the idea of a roller sun shade based off the privacy roller shade that some of our cars come with in the rear hatch area.
The roller shades are mounted into our cars via the sun visor mounts

And are heald inplace by a rear braket drilled into the sail panel plastics. only 2 small nuts and studs fasened into 2 1/4th holes create the rear mount for the roller shades.

I am 5'10" and I still have 3-4 inches of head room between my head and the sun shade

The shade is mounted high enough that it does not effect view out of the windsheld

When not in use, the shade rolls back up and out of the way

I have the black vinyl sun shade in my car but I can make them in other colors and also preferated for improved visabillity or looks. Here are some samples of materials
Vinyl: colors- Cream, Hunter Green, White, Navy blue, Black, Grey, Linen, Beige

Size: 92.7 KB
Preferated Solar Sreen 10%: Blocks 90% of harmful UV rays Colors- White, Black, Light Sandstone, Bronze
Name: dream911018.jpg
Views: 301
Size: 149.9 KB
Preferated select solar roller- similar to the 10% solar screen only more room between the material so a slight increase in light passing thru.
colors- Dove Grey, White, Black, White Beige, Beige

Size: 174.5 KB

Prices start at $125 for a vinyl roller sun shade, and $135 for a preferated roller sun shade.
If you guys have any questions pm me or send me a email at willie.dowdy@yahoo.com

thanks for your time!

Not to be an ***.

1. Thats a window shade.
2. It looks like ****.
3. Thank you for reinforcing peoples shitty opinion about 3rd gen owners
4. Probably illegal to have on your car as it obstructs your view.
5. It looks like ****.
6. Why have t-tops if you dont want sunlight?
7. It would be loud as **** at highway+ speeds. Probably break.

Just No.

Re: Custom T-top and Targa top Roller Sun Shades

in reply to WickedCrazy you said not to be an a$$ but you still came off as one.
1. yes it is a window shade converted to a shade for your t-tops. are t-tops not windows just on the top of our cars? with just a little thinking and fabrication i was able to make this work in one of our cars.
2. and 5. what makes it look like ****??? i dont see how but i would love to hear from you.
3. what did i reinforce? it may not be a 10 point cage, or a custom dual exhaust system but its still an idea that no one else thought of or put pen to paper and tried it. its crazy how some ppl are so quick to bash a fellow 3rd gen owner for no reason. i thought of something to help fellow 3rd gen t-top owners who love there cars but dont have a solution to the sunlight problem our cars have. sure you could wear a hat but that wouldnt protect your neck, arms, legs, ect from getting cooked. some t-top owners dont have a/c so having you t-tops off is the only way to stay cool while cruising.
4. the lowest point of the shade is only 1/2 inch lower then the sun visors while there folded up. if you fold them down the visors are 2 full inches lower then the lowest point of the shade. if the sun visors are in your way as you drive you should own a third gen.
6. if you accually read my post i can also make preferated ones that dont entirely block the suns rays. i just so happened to buy a vinyl one first to test fit and see if it could be done. the preferated one seems to be the way to go but i still offer the vinyl one for sale for the ppl that dont want the sunlight but still want the air flow that having your tops off provides. having the vinyl one in my car drops the interior temp in the summer sun also because no light shines into my car from the tops. i guess it would be like having a hard top.
7. i have driven with the tops off and the shade pulled back on the highway countless times with no problems. any speed over 70 then the top starts to bow upwards in the middle but it doesnt make any more noise then the wind as you drive. trust me i have tested this thing for the past 3 months trying to break it and it hasnt yet. i wouldnt feel right selling them if they didnt work. and if anyone that did buy one and was able to break it from normal operation (just driving and the material ripped or the roller stopped rolling right) they come with a lifetime warrenty.

if anyone has any real questions or positive comments only please dont hesitate to post. thank you for your time

Re: Custom T-top and Targa top Roller Sun Shades

I have to agree with WickedCrazy. It looks awful, really awful. You do realize they make covers for t-top cars. And they look way better than some window shade cover. I can respect that you did something different to your car and if your happy with it thats all that should matter. But different isn't always better.

Re: Custom T-top and Targa top Roller Sun Shades

RS Chris what looks awful about it? yes i know about the covers that go into the t-top but when you take the t-tops off the cover goes with it. do any of you guys have t-top cars? i dont think you guys are understanding the purpose of the shade here. when the tops are off theres nothing there protecting you from harmful UV rays or the heat of those rays. the vinyl shade was for test purposes, no light passes thru. with the preferated one some light will still pass thru but it would be enough to cook you as you cruise. there is still more then enough air flow around the shade to cool you down because if you have your tops off you wouldnt have your a/c on... but less light and heat. it makes for a more enjoyable cruising experence.

If you like it that's fine. But you posted it on a public forum and have to live with the fact that most people are not going to like your idea.

Re: Custom T-top and Targa top Roller Sun Shades

Everything about it. It just doesn't look right. Like a dude in skinny jeans. Also your right, I don't get the purpose of it. The whole reason for t-tops is to have the sun in your face and to feel the wind. If you don't like that, then don't buy a t-top car. It's like buying a convertable and making it a hardtop, why?
