Billet Hood Hinges
Hey everyone. Just wanted to give a sneak peak of my first prototype billet hood hinges. Pivot points have ball bearings. They're made to factory specs and reuse the stock shocks and bump stop. They bolt right in with no mods.
In case anyone is interested I did make a couple jigs that aid in the production of these, meaning I will be making several sets. Cost still isn't finalized yet but somewhere around 450 a set with chrome plating. I'm hoping by the end of the week to have a finalized set I can show off.

Base plate, tabs and the two support arms are 1/4" 6061 T6, the plate that bolts to the hood is 3/8. Tabs are tig welded in the jigs. Then each piece is bolted together with the bearings.

so then all the parts can be polished out to a high luster. Then chrome plated..or anodized the color that you want...right?
the chrome plating is done by you...can we get them in just bare aluminum. So we can have them anodized the anodizing. Will be done by the buyer.
do they have a spot for the limiters to be installed like the factory hinges.
and you can put me down for a set let me know when you need funds
and could I get a set in just bare aluminum. I'll do the polishing and anodizing....

Re: Billet Hood Hinges
I can absolutely leave them bare if you want to do your own anodizing.
And yes its all plate T6 so it's fairly easy to buff and polish yourself unlike flat bar stock.
The stock stopper bolts right in, I tap the 1/4-20 hole so all you have to do is unscrew and install on the new hinge. The struts also bolt in with some phosphor bronze bushings. Included of course.
I'll put you down for a set when I feel happy enough with the final design. I got some different bearings coming in tomorrow that are a bit stronger than the ones I use now. I will keep you posted. Thanks!

Sub'd for interest. The pivot holes in one of my stock hinges has gone all oval and has a ton of play. Ball bearings FTW. Would be interested in raw aluminum, will polish on my own.

Re: Billet Hood Hinges
This is not dead!! I've been going through a huge career transition lately and have not had the downtime this project deserves. This transition, however, means I am about to take over the family machine shop. As soon as things calm down a bit I will be making these using a better process than the prototype shown above. The prototype requires tig welded tabs for mounting, the new ones will be billet and milled on the 4 axis HAAS.
Hope to have something to show off once the shop move is done next week.

Are these lighter? or is the purpose purely aesthetic?

Re: Billet Hood Hinges
What kind of cost are we looking at? Also, are these bearings at each pivot point?
Depending on price still I am in for a set of raw, I will blast them and Cerakote them
