Custom Fabrication Shop..... Needs help!!

Third Gen, we need help. My name is Ben and i work for a local Fab shop in Highland, Michigan. We are capable of making almost anything out of stainless, mild steel, aluminum, copper, anything metal really. Our shop has fallen on hard times because no one needs custom fabrication anymore. Its all done in china, for cheaper, thinner, faster manufacturing. We are trying to keep busy but there are only so many tractor cranks that we can produce, or rusty fenders we can replace haha.
So basically I am looking to see if there is demand for custom parts.

For the LS brakes, i could sell the front pair machined hubs to you for $100 plus tax, brand new with extended studs, but is there demand?

If anyone has any ideas, or needs something fabbed up, I would really love to hear from you. text me, we can talk measurements and ill give you a quote! We only use US steel.
Our company is United Fabrication, Highland MI, 48357
you can text or email me, Ben at 248-875-4572 bkritzer159@gmail.com

Re: Custom Fabrication Shop..... Needs help!!

we do not have any lasers or water cutting machines currently. We do however have some serious and capable machines. we have a 10 foot cold cut shear, a liquid cooled bandsaw, a 500 ton 12 foot hydraulic brake press with many custom dies to bend anything from stainless 16 ga brackets, to 3/8" dump truck beds. We stock all sorts of steel tubing, 14 guage to 3/8" sheet metal, expanded, perferated, ect. We are a seasoned Fab Shop, theres very little we can't do. If you need tube ordered for roll cages and you wanna weld it up yourself, we can order it for you from Alro. Thanks to anyone who contacts me, I truly appreciate it. Third Gen is a great tool for all of us.

thirdgen specific, ls swap, long tube headers, under $500 would have a waiting list.

Look into doing fab for government contracts and DOD jobs. I do contract design work, and a lot of the larger companies I have worked for that do jobs for the DoD use small fab shops extensively.

I would be very interested in the Machined Hubs. Especially because they are made in US. Do you have these available already?

Re: Custom Fabrication Shop..... Needs help!!

Madcelt is right on with the DOD jobs we've made multiple humvee belly pans along with lockers for the special forces barracks at fort bragg. I work for a small fab shop (3 guys, including myself) granted we are in the center of the racing community so a lot of small teams come to us to tackle their fab jobs. Production jobs are where its at though to make quick easy money (once fixtures/jigs are made). I know its fun doing custom work and making a badass piece but a majority of the time its a one time customer. Keep digging, jobs are out there you just need to find them.

If you guys could machine spindles I'd think you would have a market. I don't mean modifying factory thirdgen spindles, I mean making brand new billet spindles that will take an LS1 bearing/hub, caliper mount. If you designed it with a bolt on akerman arm in two lengths for guys with or without racks, I think you would sell a lot of them.

Buy a weld up kit from summit and weld 'em up. Headers are not too bad to do.

Re: Custom Fabrication Shop..... Needs help!!

Billet Hood hinges that don't break the bank
2" drop spindles
A better STB 3 or 5pt.
Im looking for some cheap functional hood vents for my 4" cowl fiberglass hood

I second a need for a OEM mounting 18 gallon fuel cell, with OEM Style in tank fuel pump option as well as a dumped version for external fuel pumps.

I agree with the spindle idea, but not with the non servicable 4th gen hub. There is a reason People have spent time and money to convert their 4th gen front ends to a older style conventional hub and servocable bearings.

Who is doing that?

The sealed hubs are good for 150+ thousand miles without issue, and are like $80 to replace if they do fail. Makes brake jobs and components easier and cheaper, and since most people don't get the bearing preload correct on conventional hubs it solves that problem.

The factory originals will barely make 100k if you push the car harder than the typical grocery getter, and the current aftermarket factroy replacements, even the timkins, dont last anymore.

Their is no reason for a non serviceable hub other than cheap production and replacement for the oe manufactor. And why put out big money on custom spindles just to downgrade the hub assembly?

My 4th gen has factory front hubs..

I've always found the sealed units to be tighter and more reliable.
