I'm interested in selling/trading my 1992 Pontiac Firebird Formula. This is a great car. I've had it since September of 2007 and have never had problems with it. I've taken very good care of this car - I have done most of the service myself. She's got a solid Chevy 305 engine that has always worked flawlessly. She's got an automatic transmission, once again I've never had a problem with it. It's a 700r4. Here's a list of everything: New parts:
Tires
Radiator hoses
Struts
Ball joints
Idler arm
Wheel seals
Transmission filter
Fuel filter
Air filter
Brake pads
Battery
Alternator
PCV valve
Spark plugs
Distributor cap
Rotor
Blower motor
Hood release cable
Thermostat/housing gasket
Idler pulley
Drive belt
Service:
Oil and filter change every 3,000 miles
Cooling system flush
Ignition timing
Chassis Lubrication
The bad:
Speedometer/odometer inoperable.
Minor vacuum leak - does not affect performance at all.
No lock on driver's side door.
Power locks don't work.
No muffler (who needs one?) - Car won't pass emissions without one but does have a temporary registration through the end of march.
The car also has an aftermarket stereo system, I'm not sure what kind but it kicks ***. The engine in it is the formula engine, but it was dropped in about 2 years ago. For all of 2008, the car was not driven. I had a bike and so the bird sat in my garage so I could work on it. I put all of about 150 miles on it the entire year. I drove it out from Phoenix in the beginning of January and now the car's my daily driver. She still needs some work - mostly to the body, though. She's got a solid, straight body, but she does need a new driver's side door. The body panels on the front end are maroon and the body panel and rear hatch are red. The doors are white but they will be replaced when I can find suitable replacements. She does have power locks and windows and such. She does have a catalytic converter but currently doesn't have a muffler (mmm love that v8 roar). The icture shows that the car is missing the Firebird plate between the tail lights but is attached now.
I'm looking for another Firebird - though I will (of course) take a Camaro, or a Corvette. Actually, I'll take any v8 I can work on. Any year is fine too. I am looking for a car that may need some work. I am a major gear head and am never happy unless I have a project car. I am also willing to negotiate cash. I am accepting offers on the car currently, I need to sell/trade it because I am moving to Arizona at the end of the month and can not bring the car with me. All offers, trade or cash, will be considered.
Email for more pics and more information or to see the car. I am a mechanic and know just about everything about this car. Also I am available any time to show the car, I can drive it to you or you can meet me. This car would be great for a project for the spring... it doesn't need a whole lot of work and in the mean time it is driveable. I have never broken down in this car. Ever.
For the record the body parts on this car are from several different Firebirds so if that's how you're determining trim, it isn't accurate. It's got the 5.0 305 TBI Formula engine and the VIN shows up as formula.
I'd love to get $1,200 for it but that's probably not going to happen. Honestly I'm just taking offers because I'm pretty sure she's gonna sell as a parts car. Anything'll be considered, I have 2.5 weeks to sell this car....
Just for the record if you use nada, kbb or something similar an 8th digit vin tbi firebird will come up as firebird/formula meaning the engine was availble in both not meaning your car is a formula. formulas have no ground effects, whale tale fin, formula(power bulge hood),ws6 suspension, and 16 rims.
Just an fyi good luck with the sale
Well to be honest I was never really sure, I just got it for the engine. I more expect to sell this as a parts car, but it does run and drive - and pretty well, too. I really ridiculously need to sell this car within the next 2 weeks so I'm willing to let it go for cheap.
Just bc it's a V8 doesn't make it a Formula. It's just a base 'Bird with the base 8 if that's the case. I see this all the time on Ebay and it drives me nuts. Do you know if this car was stolen and stripped or was in an accident? I could see the front end being replaced with an accident, but the doors not as likely, and the hatch would have to be from another car as it's obviously missing the correct spolier.
Can we get a pic of the RPO sticker as asked above?
I honestly don't know much about it. I was given the car and told to make it work. So I did. Regardless, I don't have a camera available at the moment, but I need to sell the car this week so if anyone's interested please let me know. Thanks.
