your are deff right! My grandfathers nextdoor neighbor used to work at a assembly plant for GM back in the 80s and he used to spray paint the doors and he always told me that GM paint sucks (which it does) Esp back in the day

GM had to comply with the environmental laws at the time. IIRC it was a water based paint. Mine is peeling off constantly. When I get some money saved, its off to the paint shop.

GM's best 3rd gen paint jobs were from the Norwood, Ohio assembly plant that closed at the end of the 87 model year.

Yes but if you look at a car from both plants you can usually tell the difference in quality. Even mint examples like yours.

One bad thing I have noticed is that all three hoods I have had done for the car have been just slightly off color and I wonder if it is because of the differnt paint type? Going to have another one done soon so we will have to see if it's 4 for 4

Yeah my 'vert has Van Nuys paint, my T-Top Norwood. The difference is like night and day. Just washing the 'vert leaves my mitt black. Cali EPA standards wouldn't let them use solvent pased paints.

My camaro was built in Van Nuys and the original paint is falling off. If anyone wants to get the cars repainted if its pealing u have to strip all the old paint off first. Water based paint suck.

Norwood plant closed at the end of '87 model year? So all F-cars after that were built at Van Nuys?
I didn't know that.

That is correct. Now you have to remember not all the Van Nuys paint jobs were bad. Just compared to the Norwood cars they were of a poorer quality. Or I am lucky my car was built at Norwood and the Black paint is outstanding.

Isn't it true that the Van Nuys paint was notably worse overall compared to Norwood but did improve considerably by the end of the third gens?

After a couple of hundred thousand cars I guess they did improve on the paint process. They did get a little beter. But I bet a poll would not show it.
