Re: RPO Codes
You could lift the hood and look for the cowl tag mounted on the radiator cross support. But I'm having a hard time finding a decoder for it.
Anybody have any leads?
Have you had your VIN decoded yet (that's easy )?

Re: RPO Codes
Have you checked under both the driver's and passenger's seats to see if the build sheet is there. If you look or feel under the seat and find some paper up in the springs, pull the seat out of the car ( 4 bolts, one each corner afdte you take off a trim piece) and reterive the paper. If it is a build sheet, it will list all the RPO codes, along with other information the factory used to build the car.
Search this board for build sheet to see what you may find.

Re: RPO Codes
I've had a little bit of luck decoding the radiator trim tag on my '83 Z28.It will give you the sequential part of the VIN,carline/series,body style,build date(month/week),plant,exterior color,paint type,interior color - trim option,seat style,CC1(if factory t-top car).
If you can find a build sheet in decent readable shape it will tell you so much more.But the trim tag will help a lot.

Re: RPO Codes
Get the numbers off the radiator trim tag or better take a picture of it and post it.Then we can try and decode it for you.It's a start for you as the VIN will tell you carline.body style,engine,build plant and sequential build number.

Re: RPO Codes
first line C = build year = 1982, same character as the 10th digit of your vin
07A = build time = July, first week
1 = Chevorlet Division
F= Fbody style
P = Sports Coupe
87 = two door hardtop
L = Van Nuys, CA plant
183939 = Plant Sequence Number = the 12th-17th characters of the VIN
second Line...
26C Interiior Trim Code = Dark Blue Cloth Seats, C= Empress Eoven Veolur Cloth (The trim level is 2). This code appeared in box 77 of the build sheet.
29 is the exterior paint color, Dark Blue, Metalic U is for the Upper ption of the car, L is for the lower portion of the car (seems to have more meaning if you have a two tone parint job, which did not see to be available on the F bodies) The paint codes appeared in box 79 of the build sheet
W stands for Water Based Paint
Third line
AR9 is the seat option, AR9 is the standard bucket seat for these cars
CC1 is the roof option code, you have TTops
Both of these codes appeared in Box 107 on the build sheet, which lists all the RPO codes for the car.
D, B, and S are plant option codes and I have no idea what they mean
0bb91b is actually 066916 and is the ???? number. This number appeared in box 10 on the build sheet.
Here is some information from the 1982 Camaro Service manual in these two attachments...

Re: RPO Codes
thank you for the info, seems to match how the car is right now, ttops, blue paint, blue interior, the works... lol, one thing i dislike about the car is the clock in the center console. gas is terrible in that thing though, it's the 4 speed but at 70-75 miles per hour i'm idling at about 3200 to 3500 rpm

Re: RPO Codes
As 82Crossfire provided the info on the trim tag is what the '82-'83 cars have to go on unless you find a build sheet.I haven't been able to find out what the last line of code on the trim tag represents(mine is D S 161609).
The console clock does seem odd to some(I like that my '83 has one).But you can change the console top or take the clock out and make that space a cup holder.Interesting note is all years(at least all I've seen)console tops have the clock's 3 mounting posts molded in.It wasn't a popular option and with the advent of the ETR radios with clocks it was dropped after '85.
You have a first year 3rd Gen Z28 with the 4 speed manual.That's not a common sight these days.Not having overdrive is what's killing your gas mileage on the highway.

Before I bought my 82 Z28 one of the guys I worked with bought an 82 Z28 with the same colors as yours. Does the metalic still twinkle in the sunlight???
My build sheet is at this link.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...o-z28-lu5.html
You can get a good idea of your RPO codes by looking in box 107 at the bottom of the sheet and trying to match up the accessories you have with the sheet. It will give you a good start on your car's history.
The analog clock was supposted to be deleted in the 82 if you got a radio with the digital clock. However, I think you could still order it if you wanted to.
coolram62
That number on the tag 161609 shows up in the build sheet. However on my build sheet it overwrites the name of the box (Box 10 upper left corner), or we might know what it was used for. On my tag the line is D S B 188294. Note that the 18 looks like a 10 on the build sheet.
Sure would be nice if an old factory guy or gal would come along and let us know what that line was used for and what the letters and number mean
