Optional sport coupe rally wheels

Are they 14's or 15's? , and how wide are they?
I'm not sure what years they were available on, but I do know they were available on '85's.
Also, are they steel or aluminum?

Re: Optional sport coupe rally wheels

These are the wheels that came stock on my '87 Sport Coupe. They are 15" steel wheels, and measure 8" from edge to edge. IIRC they were one year only. The '86 and before were 14" steel, and a slightly different pattern.

I yanked these off the car as soon as I got it 17 long years ago, and they have been in storage ever since. I think they are a bit boring. They also had chrome (aluminum?) trim rings, and black center caps.

two-if-by sea, do you have a pic of the front of the wheels?

Although I can't see the full wheel, it looks like what came on my '84 Firebird SC w/305cid. They were 14", definitely. And had the trim rings and center cap. They were probably 14"x 8". I had 235/60R14s on there, and they fit really well.

Oops, you're right about 8". Mine were definitely 14" diameter though.

I have a photo somewhere around here of mine. Will have to dig for it and scan it in. Except I don't think it has a very good shot of the wheels. 15 minutes on Google image search didn't turn 'em up either

Without trying to sound like a jerk, how do you measure the width of rims? I took a tape to them, and measured edge to edge, on the outermost lip. I thought they were 7" too, before I measured them.

Thanks.

Re: Optional sport coupe rally wheels

You don't measure from the edges, as that isn't were the tire sits. That does look like a 7" wheel.

Those ARE the fronts of the rims. That's why I said in my initial post that the rims are VERY boring. I graduated HS in '92, and the high school parking lot was littered with these cars. A bunch of us parked together, and the differences between the rims became obvious them. My rims are more angled straight lines, where the pre-87 rims are rounder. All of the rims make a star shape, but they are slightly different. I had an '83 for a while before I bought my '87, and it had the 14" rims. It's amazing what a difference that inch makes. Heck, wouldn't we all like to, uh, have an extra inch?

I used to run 235/60R15 tires, and for years thought that was the correct size. The car was VERY low mile when I got it, and I had no reason to believe the tire size had been changed. I read on here about a year ago that the tire size was on the door jamb, so I went out and looked. Surprise surprise! All these years, I had no clue. This place is a wealth of knowledge!

Hahaha, yeah those rims were not that special back in the day.

I graduated in '93, so I know exactly what you're talking about. We had the Firebird guys (me) and the Camaro guys.. they were always wanting to race. Us Firebird guys seemed more interested in keeping our cars running
