Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
Could not find an existing post...
2 third gens so far at the auction:
Lot 7 is an '88 Iroc with a trailer hitch! (weird to leave it on for the auction)
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...n=7&pop=0&it=1
The other is a nice '89 TTA
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...=54&pop=0&it=1
Nothing like the last auction where GM auctioned off some of its inventory (the LT5 camaro comes to mind) but at least there is something to watch. Maybe more will be added too.
My guesses:
Iroc-z: $10k (inflated for what it is but someone will pay it)
TTA: $26k (not quite up to firehawk status)
Let's get some more guesses and see who nails it.

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
Ehhh... I can't decide if it's a good thing or a bad thing that these cars are going through the auction. It's good because it increases visibility and affirms the position that these cars are collectible. On the other hand, it's bad because it gives the League of Morons reason to overprice their cars and make it harder for Joe Blow to afford a nice thirdgen.
In many ways I feel that Barrett Jackson is a prime example of what's wrong in the world. 2/3rds of the bidders aren't car guys at all.
And whats up with the fakey IrocZ badges on the Camaro? They look like the cheap Ebay garbage.

Ah yes! I love watching this, not the prices but I like seeing the cars roll by. It's not just cars going through the roof pricewise, seems everything is these days.

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
Look at the lot numbers. They aren't going to be auctioned off with the high watermark cars on the last day, they'll be sold on the first day and with almost zero TV coverage (save for maybe the TTA).
I think that the Pontiacs in the auction are going to go for runaway amounts, like the Hemi Cudas a couple of years back.

I wont watch it just because of this very thing. Over blown prices so that people with junk rusting in their yard think it's worth 3-5K

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
Maybe I'm blind but is there any mention of the mileage on that '88 IROC? It looks like a nice example but I think it will be lucky to fetch $6/7000. That's taking into account the "I bought it at the Barret Jackson auction" factor which automatically raises the "value" of the car by a couple grand.
The TTA on the other hand will fetch over $20,000 I think. Low mileage and unmolested, that thing is sweet.
My official guess on both...
'88 IROC - $6100
'89 TTA - $21500

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
I had an opportunity to go to Barrett-Jackson a couple years ago. To be honest, I was quite disappointed in the quality of the cars.
With a few exceptions, most of them seemed of no higher quality than the cars I see at car shows and cruise-ins locally every summer. I saw a surprising amount of mediocre paint jobs, poor panel fit, incorrect parts, and cars with blue smoke coming out the tailpipes. Yet they brought prices much higher than the same cars for sale in the trader magazines or even at classic car dealerships.
Television always makes the cars look better. The cars I saw when I watched repeats of the auction, which looked perfect on TV, were not nearly as impressive in person. Don't get me wrong, they weren't junk heaps, but they weren't outstanding, either. Most seemed to be #2 or #3 cars.
I did enjoy the spectacle (Falken tire had an awesome drifting exhibition) and the displays catering to rich people (it was the first time I had ever been to a "swap meet" where there was a booth with a company selling helicopters). But saying that a car is "Barrett-Jackson Quality" doesn't mean much to me.
The old saying is true...a fool and his money are soon parted.
JMHO!

I'm looking forward to watching the Scotsdale auction. For one thing , what else is there to watch. It is reality TV in it's purist sense. Real cars, real buyers, real money . I really don't think it affects actual prices much. A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. If some rich guy is willing to pay 20K for an '85 IROC it really doesn't bump the value of mine up. My guess on the 3rd gens shown is $6,500 on the IROC and $28,000 on the TTA.

i agree with above...
7000 MAX for iroc (i'd pay around 4500-5000... it has a trailer hitch )
TTA will get over 20K easy, especially if they push the RARE factor

Great picture of your car. At least your not trying to haul a 32' Airstream behind it! In fact I went to our local land fill last week in my old pickup and was unloading my usual 3 month accumulation of garbage. When a brand new Camaro with temporary plates backed in with a little utility trailer filled with his stuff! What a surprise! These Camaros can do it all!

Hey what's wrong with a trailer hitch? I gotta haul my dancin' shoes somehow!
hauling track tires is one thing, and if thats all you use the hitch for (and bbq's i suppose) its ok, but it looks so dang tacky on the back of a camaro...
someone needs to make a hideaway hitch for our cars.
slides in and you never see it unless you are towing

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
they are selling buddy holly's 1958 cay coral Impala there, which if yoiu've read my link, you understand why that's interesting to me
it will shatter the record for the most expensive 58 impala ever sold, no doubt.
As for the camaros, consider yourself lucky that you've gotten in on the 3rd gen why they are still considered a fringe collectable. 20 years from now, these cars in good condition will be rare and desirable.
When my dad bought his impala in 1977, he got it for $300 in good condition, now a car in that condition would be worth $20,000 easy, and a restored one is worth double that

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
The iroc decals definately don't look right, and the drivers front fender gap looks really out of whack, almost like somebody jacked the car up on the fender and popped it out like the Previous owner of mine did... It does say that the car was repainted, it just doesn't seem the type of car I would expect to see there. My old boss had an 85 iroc with about 16k on the odometer and it rarely leaves the garage, still looks like new, that would be what I would expect to find at Barrett Jackson. But like the previous poster said, maybe we are just buying into the hype of the whole event.

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
No one mentioned that the IROC I highly doubt that it is a true 350 car... I would be interested in a VIN...
Also should not the front area where the front license plate is usually installed typically say "CAMARO" ??? It looks like someone had no clue what they were doing when they did the repaint... The Wheels appear to be too shiny as well to be untouched. The exhaust tips are obviously wrong, A lot of red flags on that one... I wonder what else is "Wrong" with it.
HEre are some more auctions

The IROC also has an aftermarket muffler and it says "only one repaint". I consider one repaint to be one too many on a 1988 that's supposed to be very original and presumably low milage.

I think we can all agree that Iroc is anything but correct... It looks nice, but its obvious the attention to detail was poor.
The matched pair of 92 convertibles look ok, but why would anyone want two red/red interior Z28's? That gunmetal GTA is bad ***. A few little things under the hood don't seem to click, but I'm a sucker for that color.

The only thing that jumps out at me on the GTA is it appears that they converted it to R134A... The cap on the condenser is Blue, so its an assumption. So it depends on how much of a purest you are....

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
In response to John on the 350 for the IROC-Z. The decals on the rocker panels are either incorrect or the car isn't a 350. The 5.7 TPI decal is the same length as the emblem. When looking at the pictures, it's obviously shorter than the emblem. Another detail that was missed!

I think it is lot#643? Two 92 convertibles with 932 miles on them. Owned by father and son ordered with the exact same equipment on them. Wonder what they"ll bring?

I used to watch Barrett/Jackson all the time , the cars were always nice but sometimes too nice and went for way too much money I recently started watching Mecum on HDnet the cars are alot more realistic looking and priced , I do like the stat guy's on Barrett/Jackson better though.

There are a lot of late 40's early 50's pickups in this years event....I like it. How many GTO's, Chevelle's & Mustangs do you need to see? The 66-67 Buick lesabre convertible was nice along with several other uncommon cars last night. It will be neat to see how the pair of 92 red Z28 convertibles that are on the block sell for...The red on red is nice.

how does a '93 V6 sell for $17.6k? I probably didn't cost that much new - even adjusted for inflation

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
There are some other weird things going on, too. Like an '02 Viper with low miles (6800) going for $76K. That's what it cost new-and it looks like a garden variety Viper (not even a GTS no less). I've been shopping 2nd gen Vipers, and even if it were properly modded (supercharged) with that low mileage it would have a hard time touching $50k. That car the way they have it listed should be in the high $30K range.

I suspect, like so many other things at BJ there are some phoney things going on... Chances are it is to push up the value of certain cars... They did it with the Mopars, not too long ago...

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
I guess the affluent and influential 4th gen V6 Firebird owners are calling "Fowl" since Pontiac was killed - now they're exerting some leverage on BJ to protect their investments. It'll be a slippery slope for BJ if that group turns its collective back on the auction game.

[QUOTE=flippermtc;4408221]Was it never titled? 2 miles on the odom? Are 4th gen f-bodies that next hot item?....I think not.[/
No, it was never titled. The thing is, they make sure the bidders are liquored up, and feeling like their pockets are too heavy. Amy reminds me of a Vegas casino host. She knows how to work the whales.

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
I don't see why people would have BJ auction or buy cars from them.
I was told both buyers and sellers have to pay them 8% of the selling price. For the selling price of cars mentioned in this tread, I'd rather sell or buy on my own. I don't need a third party skimming off the top.
I'll shut up now.

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
Still...to me an untitled '93 V6 auto seems more like a car somebody moved to get out of the way at the dealership and forgot they left out behind the shed. It's a leftover not a time capsule.

The 92 Z28 Convertibles went for 60,000 for the pair excluding fees which should be 6,000 if I'm correct.
They were actually on TV too!

Re: Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2010
As i wrote in the other thread..they really must be spiking the cool aid at BJ this year....$30K eack for 92 Z28 verts, $17k for a 93 V6 Firebird....There is no recession going on in AZ... Who in their right mind spends that kind of money on those cars...The 92's are nice but for 30 big ones each you have choices.....
