Interesting article...IROC greatest car ever?
Dont know if this has been posted yet, but I was browsing the net and found this. It's a listing from Edmunds of the 100 greatest Chevys of all time. Two IROC's made the list and one is ranked #6 all time!!!

Other than the retarded New Jersey accent reference (I mean, seriously, it was the ONE car poked fun of in the entire 100-car article), I thought it was great Edmunds noted the car is still a great handling and driving car even today.

Yeah, they also talked up the 93 Z28... A car so white bread the only difference between the base V6 and the top of the line Z28 was "Z28" badges and sometimes aluminum wheels vs steel wheels with hubcaps. That's not the only WTF on the list.

An honest 13 second car with a 6 speed that didn't break that got 27 MPG highway. The only people in the world that don't see the advantages of fourth gens in multiple respects to third gens reside on this board

Yeah, the '93 Z28 was a really crappy car
An honest 13 second car with a 6 speed that didn't break that got 27 MPG highway. The only people in the world that don't see the advantages of fourth gens in multiple respects to third gens reside on this board

Yeah the average 93 Z28 had a 6 speed. Most of them were cornball autos with no real performance advantage over the 92 with an L98. But they had that huge stupid dash, enormous blind spots, and an appearance only a mother could love. I'm not a 4th gen hater, I just think they're stupid looking, boring, and in hindsight a real disappointment. Certainly not a car I'd put on the list of 100 greatest Chevys. Maybe the 4th gen Camaro SS or the LS1 Z28, but not the 93 Z. Besides, when most people think of the 93 Z28 they'll be more likely to think of Optispark failures, and an honest propensity to burst into flame, long before the T56 comes to mind.
I don't like 4thgens at all. With the exception of the '00-02 SS 6 speed and the '02 600hp 427 ZL1. I had the choice between getting this car (in desperate need of a trans rebuild and new rubber), or a '93 Z28 with a cam, heads, new exhaust, etc... (you get the point, it was heavely modded) for around just under $3,000, I didn't even have to think about it. I wanted a 2nd or 3rd gen Camaro. I really wanted a '75, but I had to settle for this:
That 100 best list is bull. But so are many of the 100 best lists of other things I like. They got some right at least.

You guys REALLY don't get what's so innovative about that car? You don't see why its one groundbreaking piece of engineering? Sadly, I don't have the time to prove otherwise, but take some time and read an article on one.

I test drove a Volt. The local GM dealer had a GM rep taking it cross-country to demo for potential customers and I managed to get a drive. Technologically it was a very impressive car. Mileage varies greatly depending upon use; city dwellers may use less than a tank a year, but those with bigger commutes may see worse MPG than conventional gas cars. However, at over $40k, the car requires a $7500 tax credit courtesy of the American worker, and even then it's still an expensive, small four-seater. The car's biggest customer has been GE, mostly to take advantage of the tax credit. With sales and enthusiasm for the car as low as they are, the Volt hasn't had a significant enough of an impact on the industry and the psyche of the American motorist to warrant a top ten. If anything, it's tarnished GM's image with the political and economic implications of the car.
Meanwhile, the Chevy Cruze is flying off the lot at half the price.
And thirdgens are awesome

Let's Face it... If you took your 20MPG Camaro drove it 15,000 miles a year, you would have put 750 Gallons of Gas into your tank. At $4 per gallon (its dropping as we speak) you would spend $3000 per year in gasoline in your car.
A New Government Motors Chevy Volt (They show a $40,000 model online)... So, lets do some simple math...
1) Let us assume that all of our cars are paid off.
2) If you invest $1000 into your car every year for repairs, on average for 7 Years, you will have invested $7,000
3) You will have spent $21,000 in Gasoline in those 10 years.
4) Both cars will be essentially valueless in the end, I would assume that the Volt would require some new batteries (last time I heard it was around $10,000, it may be less for those beasties)
In the end, you would have spent $28,000 in your Camaro, or $32,000 in your new Volt. Moreover, you will have to pay for some gas, even if you got an average of 50MPG over those 7 years you will still spend $1,200 per year in Gas. or $8400 over the span of those 7 years...
So by driving your 1989 Camaro at 20MPG for 7 years with repairs of $1000 per year you end up at $28,000, and look great.
OR you can invest in a new $32,000 Volt (look like a weenie) pay $8400 in gasoline over 7 years, PLUS whatever additional you pay in Electricity, I would think around $5000, but nonetheless, you still have $40,000 invested.

Never liked the 4th Gen's styling but I recognize it deserves inclusion. This said, the '98-02 LS1 SS models were the best of that lot. Apparently they're attaching more significance to which was first versus which was best, hence the inclusion of the '93.
That's probably why the '85 placed higher than the '88 1LE, even though the latter is a superior car.
1982-83 S10 and Blazer, 2006 Trailblazer SS, and 2010 Eqinox do not belong on the list. They may have had some significance to the general marketplace or sold a lot of units but if that's the criteria, then the 1980 Citation, 1977 full-sized Chevy, 1976 Chevette, 1973 Monte Carlo, and 1971 Vega should be on the list too.
1975-76 Cosworth Vega and 1998-02 Camaro SS belonged on the list and got passed over.

To the discussion of the volt, there was nothing "revelutionary" about the car. I like the styling compared to a prius, but it's still too heavy, to expensive, costs too much to maintain, will eventully need new batteries, seats 4 uncomfertably, has poor luggage space, and is going in reverse in car enginering, not forwards. The new honda insite (on sale in California) uses hydrogen, has no batteries, requires no gas, emmits only water, and is just as quick and more comfertable than the volt. Battery powered cars are a thing of the past. Hydrogen is where it's at. That is the future. And yes, the '98-02 SS should have made the list, as should have the '02 ZL1.
