Seat cover reproductions
Hi guys. I am restoring my 85 TA. Two of my seats are ripped, one is worn, etc. I would like to put new seat covers on them. I actually have two sets of the same seats, both ripped in the same spots. SO I dont really want to go the used seats route, and waste my time/money.
My seats are two tone maroon/silver. My trim code I believe is 72C.. Carmine would be the color right?
So to my main question, who makes good quality, exact reproduction seat covers? I have seen the ones 1A has, but I didnt see a listing for my two tone seats. I while back I saw some on Hawks site. Is that my only other option? Has anyone else purchased new seat covers for their car?
I appreciate everyones' response!
Thanks,
tim

Re: Seat cover reproductions
Another option is to find a shop that does upholstery. Plus, they let you pick the type of material, the color, the shade, the color of stitching. Benefits are you have brand new material, they'll professional install them for you, and you kind of get to see what you're getting before you buy it. Bad thing is they probably will want to have your seats in their shop for a few weeks while they are making the covers, so if you only have one car then it may not be for you. I had all of my two-tone gray seats done in 2000 but sold them last year because I wanted black aftermarket seats.

I agree. Look for a U Shop to redo your seats. In the long run you will be happier. I know I was.

Re: Seat cover reproductions
I got a set of covers from Hawks on here. When I called they asked me what actual material I wanted on them so I'm pretty sure you can get what you want. They also have small samples they can send. Nice people, on the phone anyway and my upholstery fit really well and looks fine after three years now. Worth a call.

Thanks for the replies so far.. I thought about the Up shop, there is a good one close by, but I am worried they cant match OEM style cloth and colors...
tom3 - Do your new covers look close to OEM?

Just wanted to chime in here. We (1A) can get most covers in two tones if you'd like and would be happy to send material samples if you're unsure of the look/feel/color/etc.

Re: Seat cover reproductions
I have been looking for 4th gen seats but the more I look, the more I see those wearing out already and probably ready to rip.
My current seats, I have a rip in the bottom cushion on both driver and passenger. There is metal coming through as well that will catch on my pants and rip them. If I get new material to do the seats, I'd have to replace the foam too, yes?
Unrelated to the upholstery... the screw holes where the seat belt guide seem stripped out or just gone all together. Any way to fix this other than getting new seats?

Mr. Mikes makes awesome seat covers!
You can pick your own colors and what material you need.
I got a set for my Fiero and they were perfect and very well made. It comes with a video and the tools you will need to put new covers on. Check him out, really a great guy.

Re: Seat cover reproductions
Where would I get a new foam cushion? or is the seat pretty much not worth saving when metal is coming through the foam?

Re: Seat cover reproductions
I really believe you are using the wrong term. Mrmikes makes new seat upholstery; not covers per-say.
Most people think seat-covers are just that, covers that go OVER the old upholstery. These are not that, they are in fact leather full upholstery kits that you re-upholster onto your old seat framing. You remove (remove or cut off) the old cloth, leather, and pull over these seat upholstery kits and hog ring to the factory set up.

Re: Seat cover reproductions
I bought a set of seat covers on ebay for my C4 corvette for $200. Seem to be pretty good quality and fit perfect! Had the option of leather but i chose simulated leather to keep the costs down. Has been holding my butt perfectly fine. I'm sure it won't last as long as an expensive set but i doubt it'll rip anytime soon. I think seat cover prices are ridiculous... And yes i took the old leather cover off and hog ringed the new one on. A1 seems to have a good price for a front and rear set for the f-bodies. Anything over $500-600 i think its just ridiculous. For those prices have someone put it on for you too. I'll do my own upholstery when my car needs it, those shops charge crazy money.
