Solve my stupid trunk problem

Okay, I need to get my trunk open, but the button isnt working anymore. The key hole on the trunk has never worked either. Does anyone have a clever way to open the trunk? It has the electric trunk closer thingy, and it's not making any sound when the button is pressed.

Already checked the trunk fuse.

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

If you wanna get it open so you can fix it? my advice is to climb through the hatch and pop it open with a screwdriver. but be warned...you may not be able to reshut it if you dont fix it.

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

My 1st attempt would be to take the center console top off and see about the switch - maybe simply applying 12v or ground to one wire or the other will pop it for you - maybe the switch is just bad.

Climbing in over the rear seats is hard to do - the rear plastic is held in place with screws on the top, which is not accessible since the hatch is closed. You'd have to carefully go up from the bottom and try to pop it without breaking the rear plastic.

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

Some people have been able to remove the rear hatch light from the back panel, access the back of the latch and open with a screwdriver. It depends on whether you have the light and then where it's located. Good luck

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

Locate the hatch release relay, jump 12v+ to the black wire. If that doesn't do it, order a new trunk lock at the dealer, and grab a drill with a 3/8" or larger bit and start drilling until you can remove the lock tumblers, then turn the lock with a large flat blade screwdriver.

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

Ok thanks for the replies. I have the rear light, which i pried off, and I can see the trunk hold mechanism. I am trying to just pop it with a screwdriver, but I cant seem get the right movement. Could anyone describe what to do with the screwdriver to get it open? Trying not to break anything. Thanks.

On an unrelated note, is it possible to replace the electronic, moves up and down trunk release, with a stationary latch?

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

unscrew the hatch light (which it sounds like you've already done), now looking into the hole you will see a plate with a slot in it. All I had to do was insert a flathead screwdriver into said slot and twist counterclockwise and the hatch popped. IIRC it was only like a 1/4-1/8 of a turn to release the hatch.

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

If it wont pop with a screwdriver then try and pull on the cable that runs from the hatch pulldown to the lock cylinder.it will be on the left hand side thru the rear hatch panel courtesy light hole.Stick you finger in there and tug on it.

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

ok, i checked the fuse, its fine. Just to check, the wire going to the trunk mechanism is under the center console? And running 12V into that wire will make the hatch pop, if the mechanism is still functional. Anyone know what color the wire is?

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

Got it open. I was able to crawl back over the seat into the trunk, and undo the four nuts which hold on the upper latch piece. It was tight and hot, but i got it open. Now I just have to figure out which part is bad.

You should of lowered the stupid rear seat first. But I guess stupid is stupid when you call your car that. Lets see how you
fix the stupid hatch release???

Re: Solve my stupid trunk problem

Thanks for the absolutely unhelpful reply. Just found which part was bad, it was the fuse... Took me until a week ago to realize nothing in the cab was working... Anyway, it works now. Doesnt work correctly, but it never has.

if its the pulldown hatch you can try smacking the motor. If that works, lube the **** out of everything that moves!
