T Top Bag Help
I know its a stupid question, but I gotta ask. Ive searched and didnt come up with anything helpful.
Anyone got any pics showing how the T Tops sit inside the bags correctly? And how they are supposed to sit in the cargo area?
When I bought my 86 Iroc it came with the bag, but I think its missing atleast a strap, cause somethig aint right here.
Any help is appreciated!

Re: T Top Bag Help
T-tops go in glass first with the open (zippered part) facing to the rear. There should be a center section that sits between them. The straps go across the top and attach to the hooks on the floor in the front and at the rear wall. If it's not strapped down they can accelerate to the front in an accident.

Re: T Top Bag Help
OK, so not-so-off-topic, but kinda---
Does the bag with the tops get strapped from the raised area behind the seat over to the hoops coming out of the rear plastic??
If yes, then I have a problem!!
Our bag has 2 hooks on either end--we have only the 2 hoops coming from the rear...NO grooves or hoops ANYWHERE behind the rear seat-back!!
Factory T-top Camaro!!
Advice...tips...help...??...
( edit )
Yes, 1st t-top car
No, never seen how to stow!!

Re: T Top Bag Help
There should be hooks just behind the rear seat - maybe they are under the carpet? Should be slits in carpet that they protrude upwards through.
I'll get ya some pics tomorrow if no one else does beforehand.

Re: T Top Bag Help
I pulled the carpet...
there is a piece of metal on both sides the are raised slightly above the deck.
Each raised piece has 2 very small screw holes.
I have looked in my miscelaneous parts bin, & I do not have the hoop things, or anything that would match the hooks from the bag!!
So, if anyone has extras to sell, please let me know!!

Re: T Top Bag Help
Sorry didn't get the pics yesterday. Got 'em now. What I did was take pics of the bag sticker that has the directions. The factory pic shows both the tops in the bag with thhandles on each top together - I always put them in with one laying on the top, and the other laying on the bottom, and handles opposite of each other. In other words, they are in a "69" position.

Hope that helps - I've reduced the pic sizes, if you need larger pics, PM me and I'll email them.
Oh - also I believe the hooks in the carpet are the same as the hooks in the rear plastic. I don't use my hooks anymore. I went through the painstaking process of hand-sewing velcro to the straps with an upholstery needle - the rear carpet is such that velcro sticks to it very well. Gave me a clean look, and got the straps out of my hair.

camaronewbie--
Thanks for the pics & info!!
We have 2 bags, both are "GM" embossed.
1 has Velcro flap, & no zippers, no instructions for stowage.
The other has the zippers, with stowage instructions.
Both have the hook & strap tie-down.
I like your idea of Velcro to secure the stow bag!!

Re: T Top Bag Help
I said "painstakingly" because I sewed the velcro to the straps, so that I didn't mess up the leather part of the bag. It's a real PITA to get any needle to poke through that webbed strap - man that stuff is woven tightly!
Of course with this velcro I'm not sure the bag would hold in a head-on crash. But if I'm in that kind of accident, I'm hoping the T-Tops fly forward and kill me - cause if my car is wrecked that badly I'll just curl up and die anyway!

Re: T Top Bag Help
The only thing I ever sewn was " wild oats "!! !!
However; That is dedication!! My old roomy's wife is a good sewer.
Maybe I can sweet talk her into using her machine!!LOL!!
I understand how you feel-- if I got in a crash, I'd have to leave
the country!!
I have again learned something about our Camaro!!
I hope XxWickedz28xX reads the thread!!
Thanks XxWickedz28xX!!!

LOL Yep Im reading this.
I like the velcro idea, pretty resourceful!
Ive been storing my t tops in the "69 position" too, seems to work for me so far.

Re: T Top Bag Help
The " 69 position " looks to be the preference. ( Glad no ones looking over my shoulder!!
I haven't as yet used the bag--here's my luck, honsetly--
So, it rains the day b4 & the night of & the day after washing & waxing...
Wednesday afternoon, my Bride & I go run a couple errands, we both were off.
8X*, no A/C, waiting in drive-thru line...
I see she is getting frustrated & hot, so I offer to remove her t-top. Says no, so I take my side off & pass it to the folded down rear seat.
15 mins later we're going home to eat... Catch the red light, slow down quickly, top slides into my seatback!! No blood no harm nothing chipped or broke.
So I'm glad you brought it up & there are good tips!!!

Re: T Top Bag Help
Sounds like a good idea, but the sewing machine won't work. That webbing will break the needles. You want to get a nice thick curved needle, and do it by hand. Took me 3 days of 3 hours a day to sew velcro on one strap - it's REALLY tough stuff! Definitely need a thimble. I learned on the second one, to just sew a 1 inch long strip on each side, then skip an inch, then sew another inch. I just laid the velcro on top of the strap, and sewed the edges (there is just a bit of an edge on the strap that you can catch with the needle).
