Re: Moving window switches to the armrests or door panel?

The guys with 4th gen door panels have done it...I THINK...

Either way, it would be very simple to do. You would just need to move the window switch harness and split it so that each side runs to its respective side of the car. Then you'll have to extend all of the wires, probably running them under the carpet, then up into the kickpanel area, through the door jamb, and into the door.

From there, you'll either need to fit the stock switches, or get a switch from another car that you like. You should be able to wire any switch to work fairly simply.

Probably the hardest part will be mounting the switch in the door and running the wires so they dont interfere with anything. Still...not a hard job I dont think.

The wiring is different when you've got the switches in the doors, though I imagine that you could just parallel-wire the two switches for the passenger window. Maybe somebody can chime in with a pic of a 4th gen wiring diagram.

i think it's a great idea , to have them in both locations and working would be even better . IMO . i have aftermarket power windows (spal) in my present ride so my wire hook-up would be different . BUT , a great idea . i'm going to start looking for some switches . great idea , good luck .

Ah yes... I forgot that you'd be putting controls for both windows in the drivers door... Tho our cars arent very big inside so reaching over isnt that hard haha.

Wiring in the extra switch would be pretty easy. You could probably reference some 4th gen wiring diagrams, or some other cars...like maybe a monte carlo from the same year. Wouldnt be difficult to figure it out.

OP...are you doing something custom with the center console? Or just want the switches in the doors for the heck of it or what? Just curious.

Re: Moving window switches to the armrests or door panel?

i plan on hooking my door switches hot with out key on . i have console switches that work with key on only . i want one on each door so it's easy for riders . why hot all the time you ask . i live in the S.E. part of our country and rain pops up in a heartbeat . i am a retired acft. mech. and i will hook them (fused) correct . they will work from both the console and door . good luck .

4th gen window switch wiring attached. Note that if you are not using the "express down" module, run a wire from pin E on the driver's window switch directly to pin A on the drivers side motor.
