Car: 1990 Firebird Formula
Engine: LB9 - 5.0 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 2.73, LSD
Car has been in the shop for 2 weeks because of steering column, stuck.
Basically the pivot pin housing is worn out, so the wheel has the 7 o'clock slop. They replaced my column, and the replacement column had the same exact problem. The shop can not find the housing anywhere and already I'm in $730. Can anyone help me out here? It's a 90 (airbags)

I'm a little confused when you say the housing is worn out. Is it the Torx bolts down inside the column that have come loose and is allowing the wheel to wobble or is it a seperate problem?

Basically all I saw from the few minutes I was in the shop was an ovaled out hole where they said the pivot pins sit and they said they would try to find another column.

The ovaled holes are a common problem on these (thus creating the 7 o'clock slop). For a temp fix, you can fill and cover with epoxy to minimize play. I have dine this on mine with great success. Just make sure your don't use the steering wheel as a support when entering/exiting the vehicle.

I know this is an old thread but I have the same problem and found every car I search in every junk yard possible has the exactly the same issue... Is there a part number that can be pulled and replaced? Or is there a basically drop in replacement steering column?
Or is there another thread that relates on how to fix this common problem? At this point I'm wishing I didn't have tilt.

Looking back, I wish I would have just welded a washer to the column to make it round again. Something simple but effective.
