Inexpensive seats?
Looking to replace the seats in my son's 84TA when he gets home from college on Christmas break. He found these on the internet and we're wondering if anyone has any experience with them. Didn't find any online reviews. The price seems too good to be true. That's often a warning sign. But maybe they are inexpensive and not cheap.

Re: Inexpensive seats?
if youre just looking to replace them but not needing a racing style seat, check the jyards from some decent 4th gen seats. usually can pick up front and rear for about a $100 and bolt right in place of the stock seats.

If these are like the Chinese ones that I used to sell when I worked at Pep Boys, they're pretty chintzy. We had several floor models that broke, and we didn't even have them displayed on the floor so people could sit in them.
Assuming you don't HAVE to have new seats, I'd look for a set of nice used 4th gen seats instead. They're easy to find, look factory correct to anyone who's not a 3rd gen enthusiast, and bolt right in with no modifications or extra parts needed. Also you're probably going to spend a whole lot less than $300 for them unless you want a set of really nice leather ones. I got some near-perfect cloth ones from a low-mileage 87 GTA for $150 a few years back.

Fourth gen seats are a direct bolt in, and the firebird seats are more comfortable and better looking in my opinion. I speak from experience because that's whats in my 89 'vert.

Re: Inexpensive seats?
I agree with the 4th gen seats. I just picked up a set from a 97 Trans Am for $100, front and rear. They look great and I think they're more comfortable than 3rd gen seats. Just check your junk yards. I was lucky to find mine as the junk yards around here typically don't have too many of these cars, which really sucks.

Re: Inexpensive seats?
Agreed with the 4th gen seat option.
You'll have to fab up seat rails, deal with less headroom, and deal with the inherent lack of safety in not having a seatbelt loop. Some people are fine with that, but I dont want to get my head sliced off by a seatbelt that's over my neck because it lacks a seat hoop. Racing seats are great if you have a racing harness. Racing harnesses are great if you have a roll cage to anchor them to (otherwise they are also potentially lethal/crippling), and a roll cage on the street with a racing seat and a harness is good for giving yourself neck injuries and concussions against steel tubing in an accident. I will never put a roll cage into my car until I get it fast enough that the track requires it.
So with that out of the way, you can just use 4th gen Camaro seats.
1. They bolt right in.
2. They give you MORE headroom in the front AND the rear
3. You can use 4th gen power or manual rails, tehy bolt right in, OR you can bolt your 3rd gen rails to them, either way is no problem, one way or the other may be beneficial to you if you have manual/power seats and the new seats dont match exactly.
4. You get a seatbelt hoop to prevent decapitations in accidents. you can use yours, or the 4th gen's.
These are my 1998 base firebird seats, I just got them because they were available. Camaro seats are great too.
I am not super familiar with ALL variations of these 4th gen seats, but my seats give my unfortunate rear passengers an extra 3-4 inches of headroom. Notice how deep the "buckets" of the rear seats are. The stock seats were nearly flat there. They gave me more legroom AND more headroom, which is a big deal because I'm 6'2 and with my helmet I have JUST enough room between my head and the headliner to be comfortable now. Before I would have had to slouch. And I now have to move my seat forward a notch to get full travel out of my clutch pedal, and that means my rear passengers get more room in addition to me having more room.

Re: Inexpensive seats?
not to thread jack- Infernal, those are the seats i have been looking for. i have nice leather 4th gen charcoal grey seats in my 91Z. i just prefer cloth over leather. would you be interested in a trade?
i have to agree with infernal- those are good points and i imagine the cheapo seats are too good to be true.
