Rear Hatch Strut Part Question
My rear hatch struts are shot and I want to have them replaced before Thirdgen Fest...
My question is this...
Should I order this part from Hawks and pay more money plus the delivery fee to Chicago...
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/pr...t%2C-PAIR.html
Or buy it at the local autozone (or have it delivered from autozone or bought locally at another parts outlet)... this seems to be the exact same sku #.. kind of...

Does anyone have any input? 87 IROC with spoiler and rear window defrost....

Re: Rear Hatch Strut Part Question
Go to Advance. They can have them the next day in most cases if not in stock and there is NO shipping fee. Also, make sure you get the Strong Arm brand. I'm not sure of other brands, but Strong Arm are LIFETIME warranty. If they fail for any reason they are replaced for free. I bought a set for my '82 hood 6 years ago and they failed on me last year. I took them off, walked right into Advance gave them mine and walked right out with a brand new set without even pulling out my debit card. It's that easy.

Re: Rear Hatch Strut Part Question
Is the lifetime warranty in the box the strut comes in? Doesn't say anything on Advance's website that they are lifetime...

Re: Rear Hatch Strut Part Question
That's cool but I guess my next question is:
What year thirdgen do you own and do you have a spoiler. I need one that will accommodate the weight of the hatch with spoiler AND rear window defrost hardware... I am looking for a part number.

Re: Rear Hatch Strut Part Question
On O'Reilly's I found this part to match up exactly with the one I mentioned earlier on Hawks...
However on Hawks they specify that the part will accommodate the rear window defrost... O'Reilly's doesn't say anything. I'll have to call them.

Re: Rear Hatch Strut Part Question
I wouldn't be surprised if they (aftermarket) only made one style of rear hatch strut...my '91 doesn't have rear defrost, yet someone replaced the hatch struts with ones that have the spades for the defroster leads anyway.
Probably just cheaper for the aftermarket companies to throw the tiny spades on all of them than it is to have two different part numbers.

Looks like good pricing for the pairs, especially that shipping would be included.

Re: Rear Hatch Strut Part Question
Here are the ones you would need. They are for the rear spoiler, and also have the tabs for the rear defroster.

I trust you would sell me the rights ones, but he ones you suggest say they're for a 1988... is there no difference between the years? Mine is a 1987...
