Help me decide -- Repair or Replace
Hey there -- putting a cap on my the results will let me know whether to go with it.. or replace it.. but, when I pulled it.. I noticed some major issues where the bolts go in.. I've attached pictures.. I would imagine I can get rectangular black washers to reinstall the dashpad.. but, then as I look around.. the upper dash is cracked in many places. Would you Repair or Replace it? If replace.. I would have no idea how it comes out.. any help would be appreciated. I've also attached a picture of the plastic where the window and hatch switches are. I've got new switches on the way.. but, the previous owner obviously had something on there.. maybe an alarm LED? That plastic looks like it's attached to the console.. can it be replaced? Better yet.. maybe make a cup holder there? Thoughts? Thx

That's the actual dash structure, its all one big piece. You will have to remove the whole dash and replace.

Re: Help me decide -- Repair or Replace
Before the dash can come out. The center console has to be removed. Also the under dash panels have to be removed. You will see screws that hold the fuse block, some relays and some of the harness as well when you look underneath there. Undo ths screws as well as its the easiest time to do so
Remove the dash pad
Take the cluster out just remeve the torx screws and remove the speedo cable by pushing the metal tab down. you have to remove the speedo cable putting your arm thru the dash so the dash pad has to be off. Also remove the headlightswitch wiring and the fog light switch and ciggerette wiring on the other side
Drop the well and column down but removing the 3 10mm screws in the firewall and the 2 13mm nuts that attach it to the dash area. also remove the wiring from the column so you have some room to move the harness after. Also take out your brake light switch as its easy to break when dropping the columnand also tape the button as your brake lights will come on and kill your battery
When you got the dash pad off. Undo the 7mm screws againt the window where the dash pad goes. There should be 6 to 8 of them. Then there is 2 13mm nuts in the top corners of the dash and 2 10mm screws in the bottom of the dash. once they are removed then it will all come offthen all you do is remove anything else that is connected.
Swap the dash with another and go in reverse to put it back together
I might have missed a few things but im not sure as its been awhile since I removed a dash

Re: Help me decide -- Repair or Replace
I don't think here's any new ones available, prob have to Pull one yourself as most people break them when they are stripping a parts car. I sell firebird ones, but I don't have any Camaro ones.

Re: Help me decide -- Repair or Replace
Be prepared for a "quest" that may take a while.
That being said:
-- Good used replacement parts are available, but will require
research & patience. Check the "Parts for sale" section, and
the Vendors section for a list of good used parts shops.
-- For cracks, I've had success w/ Super Glue (be careful about
excess flowing onto visible surfaces). Then if structurally
necessary, apply a coat of epoxy to the back side.
-- If all the chip pieces are available, the Super Glue/Epoxy might
work on the main dash pieces, depending on what surfaces
are visible after re-assembly.
-- If replacement pieces for ones with holes can't be obtained,
epoxy can be used. With sanding/painting, the visible surface
can then be made uniform. But duplicating the factory surface
will require a higher skill level than mine.
Good luck, & keep us posted on the progress.
