Re: Hawks Restoration Series Instrument Clusters for 82-92 Camaros

Awesome !

for the top model, is there a voltage reading that appears in either of those small digital screens at the bottom?
actually, what do the screens display? I’m assuming one is odometer ? Does the odometer start at zero or is it “programmable”?

doea look good. I’m bookmarking this for the future project list

Yes the screens have quite a few options:

Standard Displays: Odometer (One time user settable, Million Mile) ·Dual (A/B) Trip Meter (0- 9,999.9) ·Clock (12 hour)

Performance Meters ·0- 60 MPH Timer (0- 100 kmh) ·1/4 mile time ·1/4 mile end speed (trap speed) ·High speed recall ·High RPM recall

Gauges ·Speedometer (0- 255 MPH/kmh) ·Tachometer (0- 9,900 RPM) ·Oil Pressure (0-100 psi displayed in 1 psi increments) ·Water Temperature (100- 300ºF/ 40- 150ºC displayed in 1 ºF/ºC increments) ·Voltmeter (9- 17 VDC) ·Fuel Level (0-99% full)

There are other expansion modules that can be added for specific displays if desired.
The popular ones include:

-Boost module (shows PSI on the small screen)
-Holley module (outputs Holley Terminator and other Holley EFI data to the dash
-OBDII module (outputs OBDII data to the dash)
-GPS module (easy speedometer instead of having to run a $300 converter box for mechanical to electric speedo.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks

Unfortunately we do not have any immediate plans for Firebirds. But the more demand, the more probability!

They look like the dakota digital cluster (in disguise)? Not that thats a bad thing, i like the looks of the gauges better than Dakota's units.

It's clearly a Dakota unit that has been customized by Hawks. You can call the Dakota custom shop and get things changed too, it's not cheap though

Re: Hawks Restoration Series Instrument Clusters for 82-92 Camaros

How is this wired into the gauges? Is there a harness that plugs into the stock location or do the wires have to be cut and spliced? They look great if the wiring is easier than what I just bought I'll return this one and get yours!

Re: Hawks Restoration Series Instrument Clusters for 82-92 Camaros

All the Dakota clusters require you to land wires under a screw terminal, so you're basically stuck cutting, or splicing, the factory harness

Re: Hawks Restoration Series Instrument Clusters for 82-92 Camaros

Thanks, when I pulled up the picture on my computer instead of my phone I could see it better. I was hoping to find a way to not hack up the factory harness but I don't see any other way unfortunately.

It's not hacking if you do it correctly

True, poor choice of words on my part. I'm just concerned as I have almost no slack to work with behind the harness. The wires are SHORT.

Re: Hawks Restoration Series Instrument Clusters for 82-92 Camaros

It's not easy to work with them, no. I cut the terminals off punkmaster car and put a 10 cavity connector on there, it was no easy task. I think I did it from below? like I was able to drop the bundle down under the steering column to make my crimps

Too bad they don't give you an adapter so you don't have to cut the harness. That is worth a $100 bucks extra to me if they would do it.

You have no idea how much enginerding is needed to bring a product like that to the market. It would probably not be worth it

It's not GPS by default for the speedo, but Dakota sells a GPS module that will send data to the cluster. The GPS module can also do outside air temp if you buy the temp sensor, plus with the GPS module it will tell you altitude.
There are other modules that you can get other data and send to the cluster too. It displays on the LCDs in the big gauges

What does the back side look like? There might be two sets of signals, one "through the dial" and those that you see. The other clusters I have dealt with have both

That's interesting that they didn't put separate indicators like on the other clusters I have dealt with. Doesn't change anything though. You should be very happy with it
