No radiator mods, just use the right hoses to connect the LS1 to it.
I used a 2001 F-Body upper rad hose, no PS cooler; lower is a 2001 Silverado 5.3L piece. Minor trimming only, no hacking needed.

you'll find after installing the 2001 Silverado hose that it hits the idler arm and looks kinda cruddy.
since looks and clearance count in your case, get a gates hose:
GATES Part #21505
i donno what its for, but it works PERFECTLY. and doesnt rub.
also the LS1 has a steam release vent... normally it goes into the radiator..
you COULD tap the existing plug on the becool radiator and then put a fitting in, then run 1/4" line to it.
or.
since yours is alum, id just cut off the existing fitting, have someone TIG on a 1/4" nipple, polish it back up, and it'll look better then factory.
i'll take some pics of the hoses and stuff when i get a chance.

heres the first pic of the silverado hose.. you can see my complaint about it.. it hits the idler arm mount.. it did come with this corragated, "protector" crap... but it looks like ***... its only on there so i can run the car while i was looking for other options...

ok, notice that small hose in the first pic? thats your coolent bypass/ steam release whatever hose... basicly it lets the air out of the head so steam doesnt form/collect there.
i screwed a nipple adapter in there and hooked it up.
naturally, as soon as the car warmed up, the damn thing cracked... i used some epoxy to fix it for now... im just ordering a generic aftermarket alum radiator soon... i'll get a bung tigged on it... much like i suggested to you.

and incase you're curious where the other end of that coolent bypass hose is, here it is..
i removed the throttlebody part (like thethrottle body coolent bypass mod) and when i say remove it, i mean, i cut it off, and ground/polished until you cant see it was thereanymore... that gave me enough room to run the hose under the throttlebody, less visible that way.
heres a pic:
you're on the drivers side of the car, looking down under the throttlebody.... you can see the TPS in the pic for location ref...

Dude are you running and LS1 k-member or are you running some conversion mounts...I was wondering if those hoses would work the same with the conversion mounts since they move the engine rearward some. Thanks

ofcourse, that may or maynot be the case... i donno since i cant measure it in comparison to other LS1 3rdgens....
either way, the hoses should still work..... they are flexible...

Just to give some help, the Gates hose checks out as a 1983-90 f-250 and f-350 hose

Re: ls1 with stock radiator?
Ok so I just left Napa for the second time, trying to figure out what lower radiator hose will work. I originally bought the Gates 21505 or whatever the number was, for the 1990 7.5L Ford, and it is at LEAST
1/4" bigger in diameter than it should be. So now I returned it and got the 5.3L Silverado hose but its not curved like the stock one or the Ford hose, so I think its going to hit the idler arm like posted above. Where are you guys getting the right size hoses from?

With stock LS1/LT1 rad, you ca use stock f-body hoses, otherwise i used an accordian universal hose with my thirdgen rad/LS1 pump

Re: ls1 with stock radiator?
I'm using the radiator from my car. I guess if this 5.3L hose doesn't work I will have to run a universal one too. I just can't figure out how people are using that Ford hose when the one I got was way too big in diameter.

Re: ls1 with stock radiator?
Ok I am thinking that the only good way to use the lower hose is to get a flexible hose that you can bend into whatever shape you want. I tried buying that Ford lower hose and the diameter was WAY too big. I just put the Chevy 5.3L lower hose on yesterday and it fits like crap, it doesn't just hit the idler arm, it's pushing in a good chunk of the diameter. I'm going to have to take this one off and get a flexible hose...

Re: ls1 with stock radiator?
Stole this from my old post:
We worked for a few hours this last weekend, but I took some pictures of current state and thought to post. We started by trying the stock 2001 upper and lower radiator hoses on my combo (ls1 + 3rd gen radiator)....this doesn't fit. Others have apparently managed to massage the lower hose on, but I couldn't see spending that much time and frustration - there had to be a better way. The upper (stock 2001 w/out the power steering cooler) wasn't long enough.
So, thirdgen to the rescue. These are the numbers you need:
Upper: Gates #20893 (Early 4th gen Camaro w/v6)
Lower: Gates #21505 (83-90 Ford F-250 and F-350)
The upper fit fine, but looked a little more factory after trimming an inch off the radiator side. The lower...looked twice the size as the 2001 camaro unit and I honestly thought I'd paid good money for a part I was going to throw away. Never the less I trimmed it where I thought it might help. This was all that I trimmed...
And boy does it fit great!

Re: ls1 with stock radiator?
hmm, maybe in the states gates hoses are still around but here in Ontario, Canada no one carries gates anymore, its all prestone or dayco.. i got a dayco hose part number 71215 which is 83 to 89 F250 7.5l [in 1990 ford hoses changed half way through the year from one peice to a two piece lower] and there is seemingly no way it will go on..... from the pictures posted of the gastes hose cut above you can see that the ends are enlarged and the rest of the hose is a smaller diameter so that it fits when you trimm the ends off.... with the dayco hose it is the same diameter throughout and no amount of trimming will make it fit nice enough... at least for my standards, it just too large a diameter of a hose. My suggestion is to STAY AWAY from the dayco hose. im not sure what ill do now, but i will post up my solution when i get one

Re: ls1 with stock radiator?
I'm having the problem with the f250 lower hose too. Mine is a Prestone hose and is the same diameter throughout the entire hose, it isn't enlarged on the ends and smaller in the center. There is no way this hose will work, it is too big and even if it were smaller, the bend seems way different than 3.1 Eye Candy's, I guess I will have to order the Gates one online then

timmyboy ur swap is lookin good .you might could try a 4th gen lower rad hose but it will be xtremely tight fight over the nipple. : but if u get it on you will be happy with the fit. u may want to try a 5.3 truck hose also there also slight diff between hose manufacturers

Hey I tried the Ford one and it was not a fit!
the rad I'm using is a Be Cool rad..is there a hose that
is special for this app..
The 5.3 was not right either, may try it again!
Any ideas or adjustable hose style I should be looking up!

Anyone consider a 360 deg swivel thermostat housing from byunspeed. Also Katech makes a straight outlet aluminum anodized thermo housing too. If you are willing to spend the money these might be good options.

Re: ls1 with stock radiator?
Jegs and a bunch of other places sell inline radiator hose drains for about $20. It's a great option because it lets you splice together 2 separate sections of hose, which open up a world of installation possibilities. It's also a lot less messy than using the stock radiator drain. And... if you're like me and run a Griffin racing radiator with no lower drain, this makes life way easier than pulling the hose to drain your coolant.

The hose I got (Prestone brand) looks to be shaped differently than the gates piece, and it does have flared ends, the whole hose is one size (too big )

Re: ls1 with stock radiator?
is that the proper hose you have in the pic..cuz mine is different. Try to get a pic of it and also thought of 45 degree elbow on the straight of the Be Cool rad. the lower hose is the same height where the base of the battery sets.....
One other question...on the water pump, What is the supply line to the heater coil? 5/8 and 3/4 I believe the size is....I'm using a manual shut off and try that instead of a vacuum one..tks for the help

hey budd, is that a stock radiator!..I have my pics on here and your rad looks like the lower hose goes lower...
The hose would work if I put a coupling in there for the lenght you needed for the lower connection....I would shorting that piece maybe....well ...its hot rodding..right..lol

Yeah wow my hose is nothing like that. Mine is short and completely different bends. Was there a change between 89 and 90? I thought someone said the hose required was from a 90? Apparently not lol.
