starter hitting flexplate?
Just finished my lt1 swap and i used a tci heavy duty flexplate thats a little thicker than a stock one. car runs damn good but the starter is hitting the flexplate and making a loud banging noise. ive tried grinding down the starter gear and it did quiet it down some but didnt get rid of it. is there a special starter i need to use with this or is there anything else i can do?

Re: starter hitting flexplate?
have tried shimming it thats not whats hitting though. the starter kicks the motor over just fine doesent hit or bind at all it just once the motor kicks over the edge of the flexplate hits the top of the bendix.

Re: starter hitting flexplate?
forgot to mention i used a sbc gear reduction starter that i was running on my vortec motor. i know the lt1 starter is basically a stock hi torque mini starter that will fit on a genI sbc but never could find one to see if maybe the gear is further back or something. also cant find anything saying if you can use a regular sbc starter on an lt1.
